Bengalis are from Star Wars?

Their theme and many campaign dialogues seem to suggest so.

Is it an Easter Egg? Any hidden message that they want to convey with the Bengalis?

The campaign is literally about Devapalaā€™s rise to prominence, becoming blinded by his own pride and arrogance, and his redemption in the end by achieving enlightenment. Iā€™d say it would be the perfect subject matter for Star Wars references.

The campaign is really cheesy with those lines.

I donā€™t hate it, or even dislike it. Itā€™s just weird funny enough to me.

Better than sands, at least.

Yeah, sometimes the cheesiness is appreciable. This campaign was one of those times. I actually had fun with all of the DoI campaigns, tbh.

By the way, adding the Star Wars references to the wiki was my idea. There are a lot of them.

If anything, the Gurjaras are the ones from Star Wars, since they play quite similarly to factions from Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds.

Thereā€™s a reddit thread as well about this.

something something Devapala is an Anakin homage

Itā€™s not the first or last time a campaignā€™s gone for blatant pop culture references, and hardly the worst move if youā€™re trying to entertain the average player. Thereā€™s enough historic flavor elsewhere that a bit of punched-up dialogue like this wonā€™t hurt.

The music theme you linked to is from the Homeworld video game, not Star Wars

Reminder that Ensemble did Star Wars references first (like in Saladin).

Really? What are some examples?

You can see them here:

Funnily enough, George Lucas stole naerly the entire plotline of his original ā€˜Star Warsā€™ from a film by the Japanese director Kurosawa, ā€œThe Hidden Fortressā€.

I rather think George Lucas stole the ideas to Star Wars from the Bengalis.

Just think about itā€¦ Devapala ruled 810-850 which is is over 1100 years before Star Wars came out 1977

Literally:

Devapala=Anakin Skywalkerā€¦

Star Wars references are a long-time feature of the series. When you kill the Templar Grandmaster in The Siege of Jerusalem, he will exclaim, ā€œIf you strike me down I will become more powerful than you could ever imagine!ā€

Obi-wan Kenobi first said this in New Hope in his famous fateful duel with Darth Vader.

Of course, of courseā€¦
