Beta balance tier list

Zeus is the main issue in beta balance.
Greek gets too much buffs especially Zeus, high speed 2 pop minotaur is broken (even broken with 3 pop), manticore has insane damage, myrmidon deals divine damage.

Hades has minotaur and manticore is still OP, Gaia has a bit good eco.

Norse army separated into 2 different building to train a bit bad in switching between inf, hero and cav.
Atlantis turma is nerfed a bit too much. Advance to hero animate is a bit slow. However oracle reveal too fast, it makes Egypt map revealing a bit like a joke.


Btw, Zeus myth unit cost 1 less pop and several speed buffs have to be remade, this is not a number issue, 5.5 speed buffed minotaur is still OP, it is never a good idea to make strength unit gain high speed. Manticore damage needs a nerf. These are messing balance.

Interesting, I came to some different conclusions. For one I think the norse are not nearly as weak as you make them out to be, Odins hunt bonus alone makes him at least upper middle field for me. Similarly Gaia can get hunting equipment an age earlier and cheaper, contributing to her status as the strongest atlantean god. Chronos is here thanks to his rush, I suspect he will fall in ranking as people get more accustomed to it but for now it had a 100% success rate for me, particularly against greeks, who have no ranged hero option anymore + the much weaker towers.

Which brings me into why I think Hades is the most busted god, because his bonuses to defensive buildings aswell as his godpower allow you to get away with an insane level of greed no one else is able to, while the free upgrades basically ensure a smooth transition into an incredible late game army. Where everyone else can be raided even under towers Hades can not, you basically need heroic to even threaten him, similarly you can also fast expand and just throw down your guardians to get map control despite being defensive.

Again I think towers got overnerfed thus giving further advantage to gods that can put out agression in the early game, like Set and Loki, although I think they are still weaker than the three gods above them. Thor is an interesting one because the free dwarves means you are going to be ahead economically if your opponent cant put the pressure on you, although admititvely he might also be C, he is the one I am most on the fence about.

Ra and Poseidon feel both solid, but they just cant compete witht he other variants Zeus and Hades both feel like Greek+ where Poseidon maybe good for timings with the better market? Needs more time, but the fact he doesnt have an easy gameplan like the other two holds him back for me. Ra is simple, effective, but egyptians overall just feel weaker than atlanteans and greeks. Son of Osiris as great as he is feels even more suseptable to enemy god powers like lightning storm being able to kill him and a migdol stronghold on its own. Having weaker favor gain harms egyptians and their late game options considerably. Making it feel that the traditional late game power house is reliant on Classical age myth unit agression to counter out greeks with their limited heroes.

Isis and Oranos just feel bad, Isis hp bonus never comes up until the very late game, her protection aura has been nerfed into the ground where you have to actually look for it to have it block you. ###### is similar where almost everything that helped him out in AoM was taken from him, now he might have deserved a nerf, but currently I haven’t found ways to use him. He has no real economic or military bonuses, just some extra LoS and building that has some limited usefulness, not bad just not what he needs. His Prometheus rush was essentially gutted and unlike Kronos his skillset gives him nothing to replace it with. The only light at the end of hte tunnel is his godpower, which is still good, although it feels still weaker than his old one.

I suspect, as the Egyptians were left out of the most recent beta, that their civ bonuses might be being reworked.

But I could be totally wrong. Perhaps if they do another beta, the Greeks will be left out to tone them down a bit too?

Norse and Atty feel in a good place for me. Neither OP nor underwhelming, a good differentiation between the individual major gods to give each its unique flavour, while not having any one in particular really excel over the others.

They were appeared in pre-order beta test, and seems no balance issue adjust in this open beta, I think they just don’t want to release full game play in beta.


About Kronos and Odin, may be can be raised in C tier in my list, but the feeling compared to AOMT, they becomes a bit worse to me, that’s why I put them buttom.

My idea: C = close to balance, D = gets some nerfs feel worse, B = gets some buffs makes feel a bit strong, S = buff too much becomes broken.

If I don’t count Zeus, the balance gap is still ok for me.

I agree that greek’s are very powerful into retold’s mythic unit centric gameplay. They have the best myth units, while egyptians have the worse so far. It is clear that egyptian’s myth units needs a buff to compete with norse and greek. Just compare that 704hp minotaur to an 230 hp anubite, that is slower, with just 4 speed and do less damage, its disgusting. Now think about wonder age mythic units spam, do egyptians really have any myth unit that can trade efficiently with greek myth units? Colossus are much more durable than avengers and simply outlive them, and chiameras outdamage and outlive them too. Medusa’s special are still useful against powerful myth units, not like mummies new special though. Phoenix spam may have its uses but they cant hold ground and Ra dont even have them. Right now, egyptian age 4 myth units are worse than greek’s heroic myth units, as nemean lion, hydras and manticores are all very strong now, since they received buffs for the beta.

Besides that, egyptians may need a buff to their late game favor generation. I would sugest an upgrade at age 4, researchable at monument of the gods, that allows temples to generate favor at a slow rate, in order to keep the egyptian’s favor from buildings theme, but allowing them to compete with other civilizations at late game.

Norse and atlantean late game mythic units are well rounded, fire giants are durable and do high damage from range, and heka giants are absolute monsters that can compete even with greek’s. Then, I would sugest an upgrade buff to avengers to increase their hp and armor or restore mummies insta kill special attack.

I roughly remember anubite is 5 speed, but HP, resistance and attack are absolutely lower than minotaur.
Minotaur just one tech can reach more than 5 speed, and more tech to reach 6.7 speed in age 4.

Avenger skill is also very poor even weaker than manticore normal attack.

i watched boits video and i have to agree with him from what i watched during beta and stress test.

odin seems to be very popular und very strong, thor relative strong and relative popular, hades very popular and solid after. the three lowest it felt like were my beloved isis and gaia aswell as uranos.

ra and set were solid, set maybe even stronger than ra now. but still not as good as zeus and the first mentioned. poseidon being okay but way more on the lower side which i personally appreciate.

My gameplay mostly had Zeus…
1st beta 50% Zeus 30% Hades…remains Norse and Egpyt.
2nd beta 30% Zeus 50% Atlantis 10% Hades 10% Norse…

Although it is beta.

I launch the old AOM and get the minotaur data.

This is original full-upgraded bull minotaur, they get 3.5 more speed now. Attack and hp are also 1.5 times more than before. And now they only cost half pop.

What you showed in you first post post is a mythic/wonder age minotaur, every myth unit gets various boosts for every age advancement in Retold.

I don’t get what are you trying to argue with these comparisons, classical age zeus’ minotaur has still 400~ hp in Retold, and no one spams minotaur in mythic or wonder age.

The only thing that might be OP is the speed boost through the upgrade, but if that is the case I’m confident that it will be nerfed.

In age4, You will not spam Minotaur in AOMT, but you will spam Minotaur in AOMR, even we ignore the broken speed. 2 pop 200food15favor for such state is strong.

You don’t know this dev. they created and keep the “speed buffs” to some units in aoe3, even this unit is just trash unit, still makes the game balance completely mess, after months without any adjustment.

I raised this issue at the first beta, but dev adjust other balance and remain speed buff.

Dev is looks showing “we think speed buff is funny we will keep such these buffs”.

If you don’t understand the problem, before comments raised Anubite as an example.

To be honest I am very very worry.

Honestly you can spam almost every myth units in the lategame now if you want to, they are really strong and pop effective which is great.

Anubites should be indeed faster than Minotaurs even after the Minotaur’s upgrade, I don’t like that they’ve nerfed Anubites’ speed in Retold, they are the premier raiding units in classical age for Egyptian and really fun to use.
Minotaur should obviously be stronger than most classical age myth units, but definitely slower than Anubite.

Buff Poseidon. He is so underpower in this beta. :scream:

This is Egypt age 4 myth unit…lets compare to minotaur a age 2 myth unit.
Status except human unit bonus are all weaker than minotaur… also don’t have attack range, not even mention avenger skill is weak as hell.

For me this is why Zeus S tier 2 level higher than others.
He doesn’t need to build even one barrack still be able to defend a whole group army and age up myth age.
