To answer the side question: if I remember well, there is an option in the Steam settings to choose whether to show the mouse on screen captures. That might be why the mouse doesnāt show up.
And what must i do when i have the game in Windows store? ^^ā

Hello i just got the same issue after today update. Should i reply here with my Dxdiag.txt file?
I finally fixed the problem. All i had to do was to turn off the overlay in Geforce Experience as it fucks up old games.

Hey guys
I installed the game from steam and I get the same error. I tried everything to fix it and nothing happened. So I just reinstalled windows keeping my files following the tutorial below. Then it worked. The game started properly with video, working both online and offline.
My notebook specs are: intel core i7- 2 geraĆ§Ć£o, 8 GB of ram, video card nvidia geforce 540m and windows 10 x64. Under the minimum specs for the game as you see but it is working fine.

I just bought the age of empires bundle with all 3 definitive edition games ā¦ but only age of empires 2 isnt working for me ā¦ after intro video i just get a BLACK screen and music in the background with the age2 mouse pointer ā¦ the intro video also looks kinda sketchy bc the lower part of the video grains weirdly ā¦ idk what to do else i tried everything ā¦ idk if the problem is just me or it still happens to others bc i checked multiple forums and still no fixā¦ Please help me people im so frustrated with this 
OK I FIXED IT ā¦ i reverted my nvidia graphics driver back to may 27th 446.14 version ā¦ idk why the newer graphics drivers dont make the game work its surreal ā¦ any suggestions devs??? ā¦ but ye whoever has this problem just classic revert to the driver that worked 
After my issue with the black screen and the new drivers and reverting to older ones ā¦ i have a diagonal screen tear across the monitor when im scrolling in the game itself ā¦ V-Sync in game and in the nvidia control panel didnt help or any other older driverā¦ any ideas??? HELP
I have the same computer with the same issue.
Try to unable your graphic card before playing to this game.
Go to:
- Computer Management (Right Clic on This PC icone)
- Device manager
- Display Adapters
- Right Clic on your Graphic Card (Nivida GTX 980M)
- Disable Device
When playing better game go back and Enable Device.

I had this problem recently after installing the game (from microsoft store) with enhanced graphics on a new PC but still playing on a laptop during travels. I had the problem described before : game in black screen with music playing. Only exception : pressing Windows button or making quick alt-tabs would show the game but only for a few secs before black screen.
I tried to reinstall, update GPU drivers, nothing was working. I found out that the game would work in windowed mode (alt-enter). But playing in windowed modeā¦
The solution that worked for me was the one mentionned as ābustedā previously : uninstall the game from the other machine (the laptop) and reinitialize the game on the new pc (no need to reinstall). I didnāt try with enhanced graphics as it is mentionned as a potential source of error.

Referring to Age of Empires 3 collection, If anyone is using Wine to run it on mac and is getting a black screen after cinematics play, donāt forget to install Direct X 9 through Wine, just run the exe and the direct x install should be done in a few secs. This is one issue that will cause a black screen. took me a while to figure it outā¦ Best of luck to all

I have the same problem since the February 1 update and it seems that the problem is more than 2 years old and they donāt seem to want to fix it. It is not a player problem, it happens after an update.
I have tried everything, but it doesnāt fix it. The only thing that works, but is unplayable, is to disable nvidia from device manager, and the game runs at less than 10 fps.
I donāt know why they ask us for logs or data if they donāt bother to give an answer.
