I feel like with the last update the chinese civ are kinda out of balance, not only they dont have gunpowder units (idk why anyways, but specially hard to play without bombard cannons), they now lack cammels, lacks redemption, siege enginers, hussars, hoardings, the economic bonuses are kinda weak compared with a LOT of other civs, chu ko nu are bugged AF (the elite upgrade is insanely expensive and does nothing), same with rocket carts (which are a nice addition i must agree). I dont know if is only my idea but i feel that they arent anywhere near to depict one of the biggest and oldest civs on earth, ty for reading and excuse me for the bad english ![]()
Welcome to the forum!
I don’t think buffing Chinese is likely in the current political climate in the Anglosphere.
In this game you should expect overhyping of stereotypes like Japanese faster attacking infantry instead of anything remotely historical (like a significant Japanese food discount to reflect the historically awful diet of even daimyos).
On the other hand, I’d like to invite you to look at some of my ideas regarding actually making China-related content. Because China is, functionally, a continent with more reliably recorded history in the AOE2 period than all of Europe put together. You can just go on my profile to see my threads if you like.
The Chinese is one of those civs that would be monstruously OP if they were historically accurate, similar to the Franks who should notably have top-tier arbalesters, defences, artillery…
In AOE2 the Chinese are very hard to master due to their start, but it’s a very powerful start at high Elo. It’s just a civ that’s hard to get into.
Pls
Chinese is still one of the very best civs in the game at pro hands, at 1900+ ELO
Literally still at 59% WR, while still being top pick/ban in tournaments.
Surprised not to see Hindustanis in the top 5 on Arabia at 1900+ ELO.
camels were replaced by fire lancers. for the rest you listed, they didnt have it either before rework.
it’s not new too, just now you have the effect of former rocketry inside.
