Buffs to legacy civs in response to The Last Chieftains?

Buffs to legacy civs in response to The Last Chieftains? Instead of nerfing The Last Chieftains civs, what about buffing older ones, and giving some quirky things?

Fortified Barracks for Western European civs. Available in dark age. Britons, Franks, Celts. Each individual barracks has to be upgraded. Cost 25 stone and 50 wood. Result you get a barracks that can fire up to 5 arrows, however the only do one damage (and can’t be upgraded at the blacksmith) but they do +2 against militia.

All Celts infantry receive a charge attack that does one damage however it becomes with a large speed boost, on top of their already fast moving infantry.

War Dogs for Europeans. Fast movement speed. Attack 5. They do plus 5 bonus damage against militia. Not affected by any blacksmith upgrade. They have 0 pierce and melee. Cost 40 food and 15 gold. Receive plus 15 bonus damage from cavalry and the spearman-line. As the game goes on they become rather useless. Early game only. They can chase Champi, and make them scared. But they will lose to Men At Arms, and following Champi upgraded unit. Only 5 bonus damage against Men At Arms, Longswords, Two Handed Swordsmen, and Champions. Only 5 bonus damage against Champi Scout, Champi Warrior, Elite Champi Warrior.

Britons villagers have a very slow charge attack. Every 60 seconds they can fire an arrow that does one damage. Range 3.

if there are 40 balanced civs and 10 unbalanced ones, it’s easier to fix the 10 unbalanced ones than buffing 40 other civs.

no. aoe2 isn’t a 14yo girl, it shouldn’t be quirky.

War dogs and fortified barracks sound interesting. Not a fan of charged stuff.

No.

That is power creep and no one likes that. Better to nerf all civs.

No one likes that, but few realize how bad power creep has gotten

I’ve always felt the Heavy Pikeman could work well as a regional unit for the British and Celts—maybe even for a few other nearby civilizations—with proper balance adjustments. The unit is already in the game, so it would make sense to make better use of it rather than letting it sit unused.

A duplicate thread and as I mentioned in the other thread - Civs with regional units except Chinese, Mongols, are weaker than generic civs. Economic bonuses are weaker, tech tree has many holes. So none of what you’re suggesting is required. So just Chinese and Mongols need to be nerfed. As far as Last Chieftains goes, those units have 0 economic bonus other than their settlement saving a house or being cheap. Very mild resource benefits and too many tech gaps. No stable, CA or gunpowder. Mapuche get CA replacement but no thumb ring or bracer. Muisca don’t get halberdiers. Tupi lack blast furnace and thumb ring. Most of the legacy civs are orders of magnitude stronger and none of them should be buffed. A few like Byzantines, Chinese, Mongols, Japanese on hybrid and Vikings on water need some strong nerfs.
