Same problem of gold medals reduced to silver, but also i’ve lost EVERY medal in the Campaigns of the first 3 DLC’s from Lord of the West to Indian Dynasties.

I had 100% gold medals. Unless this thing is fixed I am not gonna buy another DLC. This is atrocious service.
And this bug was not even addressed by devs yett! Absolute disregard for player’s effort and time to get those medals.
My assumption is that the developers inadvertently changed the enumeration values associated with the medal ranks during the recent patch. Reverting these enumeration values to their previous state and appending any new ranks at the end should restore the original medal statuses.
If this is not the case, another simple approach would be to programmatically increment all current player medals by one rank, effectively restoring the medals to their intended status.
While this bug is indeed very frustrating and disheartening, given its impact on players’ sense of achievement, I am optimistic that the developers will resolve this promptly in an upcoming patch.
I’m surprised it’s been such a long turnaround though, for such a major bug with a seemingly simple fix, 4 days is crazy
Do you think that we can play the campaigns we haven’t played yet normally until a fix arrives? Or would that mess something up and it would become harder to fix it?
That would be a terrible approach. There are many players who have completed campaigns for the first time since the patch, and this way you’d be elevating their bronze/silver medals up a rank. Given what happened last time, I have no doubt they have some info stored whether someone completed a level or not, so adding a bronze medal to completed levels on bronze would work, as well as not incrementing gold levels higher.
But if they do not stored the date of medal completion, then that’s a problem in case it’s not an enumeration problem…
I’ve stopped playing single player since the patch. That way I can submit another bug report if the new Xie An scenario gets a bronze medal next to it.
I wasn’t going into full detail, but your point is absolutely valid. I’m confident they do store completion date details, as shown here:
Thank you for that! however, from what I see, that’s one timestamp (where is that screenshot from, please?) - now, is that the timestamp of the first completion? Is that the timestamp of the last completion? Is that the timestamp of the first highest medal completion? Is that the timestamp of the last highest medal completion?
Because let’s say you first completed it on bronze, after the patch you won it on silver…and if the timestamp shows your first completion, you’d be getting a gold medal with the “fix”…
This data is retrieved via the Relic API for each player (see: rlink:game:leaderboard:getpersonalstat [LibreMatch]). It includes statistics for every campaign you’ve completed, matching what’s shown on your official profile page: Stats - Age of Empires - World's Edge Studio.
The screenshot shows only a small segment of data from missions I completed on a single day last year. To my understanding, the timestamp reflects the last time your achievement was modified—meaning the most recent improvement of your medal ranking. I’ve confirmed this behavior with other tracked statistics (e.g., cumulative career kills), which update after each game.
Regarding scenario medals, a value of ‘13’ represents a Gold medal from the previous patch. Lower values (such as 10, 11, 12) indicate lower-tier completions. Public documentation on these exact values and cryptic campaign names isn’t available, and I’m currently working on deciphering them.
Campaign data is primarily stored in the file player.nfp
, located in your UserDir Games AoE2 folder. As the file format is undocumented, it’s not currently possible to manually edit medals. I’d recommend waiting for the next official patch, which is likely to restore your pre-April 10 progress. In the meantime, creating a backup of the file would be prudent to avoid any accidental data loss.
Edit:
I’ve deciphered some of the important parts of the player file and was able to modify it to grant myself a Gold medal—a feat that’s impossible without cheating on the current patch:
This makes me confident that I could provide a script to modify any profile—for example, to change all current Silver medals to Gold—if the developers fail to release a patch (which I doubt, since it’s already on their main agenda).
Strangely, for the “The Art of War” campaigns I was unable to earn a Gold medal. In other words, whenever I finished with a time that should have awarded Gold (the Steam achievement even unlocked), the in‑game medal only displayed as Silver.
“The Art of War” campaigns differ from all other campaigns in that completing them without earning any medal still counts as “finished” (with no medal awarded). Was this the case before the patch dropped? I thought you had to achieve at least Bronze for a mission to register as completed. If so, this could explain why this bug emerged.
This is how it currently looks—regardless of whether I earned no medal or the Bronze medal. To clarify, here’s the current display behavior for The Art of War missions:
Medal display behavior:
player.nfp
manually bumped one more rank → Gold iconThis is actually great. I had complained recently because I wanted to start from scratch after a year of no play.
Now I can have the feeling of achieving again. Surprisingly I’m so good now that I am rushing through the campaigns on hard. Some previous missions which were a nightmare are now very easy. Already finished atilla, Joan of arc, William Wallace. Barbarossa all in one day.
I’m happy for this bug but ideally there should be a way of resetting the campaign.
And this is what’s stuupid with this game. And the reason I gave a negative review on stream to my all time favourite game. There single player campaign should not be linked online. I should be able to save it on steam just like every other game, and reset or restart the campaign at will. Like every other game. Online should not be mixed with single player on any game ever.
I have completed a couple campaigns since this bug (that I originally didn’t start) so i hope if they revert back, it doesnt wipe my progress since the update..
Still not fixed!! ,what are they waiting for? ,they have all data on their servers , is this a bug or change difficulty balance?, I noticed that they did extra difficulty in AoM : retold (Ludicrous), RIP my Time on Titan difficulty.
There is a temporary fix with a mod. “Silver to Gold campaign medals” by “Hjoerleif”. All campaign medals I had which were Silver turned back to Gold except The Art of War campaigns. Even if I replay them and finish it in the Gold medal required time it still wont become Gold. Not even this mod can change that.
Also it does not fix chronicles. It still display them wrong.
Hello, I have the same problem since the game update.
I would love to replay the campaigns with a Titan / Extreme AI.
I’ve updated it so it fixes Art of War as well. Chronicles I haven’t been able to figure out however
I did it 2 times in Extended Edition and Retold with DLC, but the new difficulty called (Ludicrous) it’s not enjoyable ,it’s annoying.
Can confirm, just checked and this bug is still there. All my hard earned gold medals are silver, and the Sargon campaign I haven’t attempted yet on gold, that was all bronze, now says I haven’t played it yet with no medals next to each mission.
Clearly I won’t be playing any more until the developers release this update and fix the medal system!
