[Bug, Regression] Garrison Behavior Broken When Building Is Full

:arrow_forward: GAME INFORMATION

 These details are CRITICAL; DO NOT skip them or your issue may not be reviewed.

  • GAME BUILD #: Hotfix 63581, after Update 63482 (the hotfix that “fixes” the “Kings can’t garrison” bug)
  • GAME PLATFORM: Steam
  • OPERATING SYSTEM: Windows 10 (note your default options are as follows, you should add an option for Windows 11: Windows 10 / Windows 8 / Windows 7 / Mac / Linux)

 DESCRIBE THE ISSUE IN DETAIL (below). LIMIT TO ONE BUG PER THREAD.

The garrison behavior is broken when a building is full. Recall there are two ways to garrison inside of buildings: select units, click the garrison button or press the garrison hotkey, and then click the building, or select the units, hold Alt, and right click the building (when that feature is enabled).

Here is the expected behavior:

  • The mouse cursor changes to the garrison icon when hovering over the building (while holding Alt).
  • Issuing the garrison order displays an error message that the building is full.
  • Despite the error message, a green confirmation box appears around the building, and the selected units walk to the base of the building but do not garrison.

Here is what happens currently:

  • The mouse cursor does not change to the garrison icon (while holding Alt).
  • No error message or error sound is given.
  • Units stand in place and do not walk towards the building.
  • The green confirmation box still appears though.

Note this behavior is of particular importance for Villagers and TCs, since Villagers should still gather underneath the TC even if it is full. Note also this bug is specifically for issuing the garrison order when the building already is full. If there is even a single available space in the building, then the behavior is as it should be.

 How often does the issue occur? CHOSE ONE; DELETE THE REST!

  • 100% of the time / matches I play (ALWAYS)

:arrow_forward: REPRODUCTION STEPS

 List CLEAR and DETAILED STEPS we can take to reproduce the issue ourselves… Be descriptive!

Here’s the steps to reproduce the issue:

  1. Start a game as the Huns (so you don’t need Houses) with infinite resources (or just cheat for food).
  2. Type “aegis” and train 15 Villagers to garrison inside of your TC.
  3. Select your other Villagers, click the garrison button, and click the TC. Notice the green outline appears, but there is no error message and the Villagers do not move.
  4. Hold Alt and hover over the TC. Notice that no mouse cursor appears. (Note that if you right click at this point the Villagers will walk under the TC, but that’s because the game is issuing a move order instead of a garrison order).

:arrow_forward: EXPECTED RESULT

 What was SUPPOSED to happen if the bug you encountered were not present?

The Villager should walk under the TC. And the mouse cursor should turn to the garrison cursor while holding alt.

:arrow_forward: IMAGE

 ALWAYS attach a PICTURE (.jpg, .png, .gif) or VIDEO (.mp4, YouTube link) that highlights the problem.

In the following image, notice the green outline, but the lack of warning message and the villagers still standing still.

:arrow_forward: GAME FILES (SAVE / RECORDING)

 Attach a SAVE GAME (.aoe2spgame) or GAME RECORDING (.aoe2record) of the match where you encountered the issue. Link it below if using an external file service.

  • Should be easy enough for you to reproduce without submitting a rec or video, but I can provide one if needed.

Hey @TWest6709

Thanks for the report! I have created an internal ticket for this issue
