Buildings are too weak

Why are buildings like paper mache?

they get mowed down so easily - make siege less important

What buildings exactly are you referring to? Forts are still being zoned.

All of them particularly defensive buildings. AOE4 you need a big army or siege to take them down. AoM they are so easy to take down with a small army

I think they are OK. The main problem with retold vs AoE IV is that arrows in AoE IV never miss and castles and towers can shoot directly down their feet so it makes meeles not so effective against them.

People bring this up and forgets all the other differences

You dont start with 4 free towers in aoe. If towers are too strong you basically protect your base for almost nothing in aom, killing early aggresion.

Theres no stone in aom to act as a limiter to getting this specific Buildings.

You dont build you basic calv units on a fortress in aoe unlike aom. Its tricky to balance out a Building that serves both the role of producing units and defending.

Buildings next to each other in aoe have gaps so you need walls 100% of the time to cover an area. In aom you can protect your base by boxing with Buildings in the early and midgama and Just do Tiny wall to close gaps and a gate.

And finally the most important one. Asymetry. AoM is not like aoe where every civ has the same unit pool and simply some of them are either extra or special for the most part (yes im aware this is generalizing).

In aom the same siege options are not available to all civs. Some have better some have worse. Atty for example has no heroic crush damage siege unit. Destroyers do hack and have a multiplier. Behemoths are a siege myth unit but its locked behind a god choice.

This affects greatly gameplay. When the Fort patch came in, we playing at higher skill level, if you had range siege you did good, if you didnt it was quite a struggle to get by.

How good would you feel if your civ in aoe had no range siege, Just had rams, good luck taking Down your opponents castle while he has range siege and has his army below 2 castle defending and slow pushing you.

what if they made the non ranged siege have more armour against buildings?

The issue is not their armor vs Buildings is versus everything else. Your worry is never your rams dying to tc/tower/fortress/archer’s fire.

They even got rid of villager multiplier to help them be less paper. Thing is you still need a way to deal with siege. They already have high pierce armor to be able to take down Buildings. If the hack is too high then you can no longer deal with them properly for some civs.

Destroyers also serve as army units so rise armor too much and then they are infantry or héroes you cant counter.

Eirher way the current Best counter to siege is… siege (crush damage) or divine damage which is more rare.

Even if you land on the perfect number. As long as that range difference exists you would need to go with your army into your opponents fortress to protect your siege. And if fortress are aoe levels of strong you stand no chance with you army. Sure your siege Will survive the Buildings, but all the other units……

But also the problem is AoM has Titans and god powers which make it incredibly hard to defend when buildings are so weak. Literally wash your whole base away in a second.

Be amazing to have an option for stronger buildings and walls. I play single player vs AI

It’s annoying that units can’t go between buildings but I learn to live with it - units get trapped and you have to be even more careful where you place the buildings

Thats also true. God powers clean whole bases or whole armies in seconds with little to ene no counterplay.

If you only play vs AI you can literally download a mod that grants what you want. Can customize the game to you whole liking.

I get where this comes from if you come from aoe. I personally like the idea that i can wall my base with buildings and it rewards player for having a good base layout. Something i also like about games like warcraft 3. thout that one has no walls at all.

If you play against AI only i ge where this perspective comes from. Since AI is never gonna abuse the things you want you will always enjoy it. Which is not something that happens when you play against other people.

This is just AOMR path finding and general unit AI being horrible, and on top of it, more than half of MU abilities involve throwing groups of units in some form, and when landing the units get stuck. Getting stuck in buildings is relatively rare, more often they get stuck in terrain.

This is not AoE4 thankfully. Buildings are fine now in AoM, not weak and also not decimating armies by themselves.
