Yes, now they are a perfectly balanced civ
⊠No, to be honest he is likely choosing all those âunexpected civsâ in the early stages to not show his strategies until the really important matchups later on⊠But it sure is entertaining

It could be that for the Bulgarians, but sure he like to play with the Portuguese
Iâm thinking that thee Portos could be one of the stronger civs for TheViper with the huge 20% discount on gold
He doesnât need any eco bonus to make every game smooth and all the power units in the game cost gold soâŠ
Yes Tatars neither, he used them vs Bact
Not only Bulgarians, there are many civs that have 0 pick in this tournament, the Tatars have only 1 pick by the viper, and in the ladder the Bulgarians have a win rate better then Tatars.
The Turks too have 0 pick, Koreans 0 pick, etcâŠ
Actually Turks were banned in one matchup making Koreans the only Civ not being seen in any draft.
I feel bad for the Koreans
They are officially the worst civ (along with the Turks) in Arabia
Unless they have a real great late game they deserve some love from all of us (devs, pros and all the players)
PS The Turks have a solid late game (with gold in it) and one of the best Arena civs
Thatâs a pretty good idea. Loom free for Bulgarians could be the boost that needs.
That would be a copy of the Goth bonus. I donât think the Devs would ever do that.
More likely would be to move the âstart with +50goldâ bonus from Aztecs to Bulgarians as Aztecs are pretty strong right now and might get a nerfâŠ
I like the cheaper military buildings idea. Otherwise, one could try cheaper blacksmith upgrades (even just a food discount would help a lot). Probably, you could give bulgarians both and they still wouldnât be op, thatâs how much they are struggling right now.
Nico idea was delete Loom from Goths and give it to Bulgarians. As he says:
âI think they will have to reset their dark age bonus by removing free loom (they already have fast creating and cheaper milita / More efficient hunters and less risk losing vills thanks to the fast killing boars)â
It could be interesting
It could be a good change if they consider making a small buff for militia line in the first place
In my humble opinion devs had a weird approach with Goths. They certainly need a buff few months ago, but I donât think give them another dark age bonus (they have 3 right now) was the best way. As the only civ exclusively dependent on infantery, a small LS balance change could have help them better in theirs issues.
Itâs another debate, tho free loom could be interesting for Bulgarians who struggle in early game
I think free loom in bulgarian could lead to similar annoying meta than goths.
Free loom plus discounted stone are good for trushing. Free loom with free m@a could cause an super_early m@a rush.
I know bulgarians need something but i prefer to let goths the way theybare right now and give bulgarians another bonus. In my opinon, the bonus should be wood related
On the TC discount, from another thread on Bulgarians
If weâre gonna change Bulgarians, thatâs what we change. I think the bonus could be interesting if we kept it as a bonus that only kicks in Castle age or later, but make it a static 50 stone discount, and have it apply to Towers. That way, theyâll have a unique push and map control style being able to put up very inexpensive defenses (along with the Krepost) and it supplements a drush FC, which is arguably their best strategy. They get FU towers, and Towers are a good supplement to the Bulgarian army given how they donât have a FU archer or CA line to fall back on.
I think this is the most robust and unique method to change them and if we arenât going to expand this bonus, it should be removed as Iâve described earlier as itâs really weighing down the civ.
I made an article here, covering bulgarian problems, and other balance issues that we can hope will get adressed in this monthâs patch
Why would a civ like Bulgarians start with more gold ? For the Aztecs with their natural ressources they were haunted over it makes sense. For Bulgarians not so much,
I am missing where this has been sugested and perhaps it was done purely for balance reasons⊠BUT in fact since ancient times (before slavs and bulgars settled in) The lands of medieval Bulgarian Empires had gold. Gold mining and gold processing were very well known by the thracians:
And where Medieval and Modern Bulgaria stands is exactly the Thracian lands. Historically thracians are the third founding element in Bulgarian history often forgotten as by the time slavs and bulgars settled their population had been reduced. Despite that gold was well known and later used by some Emperors to mint gold coins.
What if Kreposts upgrade and train units like the Castle, but Bulgarians lose access to Castle?
Too arbitrary nerf for their defenses
Nerf ? They just got 350 stone castles that are a little weaker but still are freaking 350 stone castles.
I like the idea.
It would change their identity a lot though. (From offensive to defensive). It would allow them to turtle up, boom and then stomp with KonniksâŠ
