Burgundian Hand Cannons have bonus damage against Condos

:arrow_forward: ISSUE EXPERIENCED

Burgundian Hand Cannoneers deal a little more damage than they should against Condotierros. Basically, their civ bonus grants an additional +3 bonus damage against infantry which also applies against Condos, even though Condos thematically aren’t supposed to take any bonus damage from gunpowder units.

:arrow_forward: FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

Haven’t really checked, but with direct hits it should be:

  • 100% of the time (ALWAYS)

:arrow_forward: REPRODUCTION STEPS

Here’s the steps to reproduce the issue:

  1. Have a Burgundian Hand Cannon shoot a Condotierro (scenario editor is great for this)
  2. Check damage dealt and compare to hypothetical damage calculation. Right now, 17+4-5 pierce attack (assuming 5 PA of a FU Italian Condo) + 10+3-10 anti-infantry attack = 19 total damage. Burgundian hand cannons get an additional 3 bonus damage against infantry which is still dealt to Condos because the Condo’s 10 infantry armor is counteracting the 10 bonus damage that all hand cannons get against infantry
  3. Note: missed attacks that hit a different target deal less damage. If you get an indirect attack, try again until you get a direct hit.

:arrow_forward: EXPECTED RESULT

Burgundian Hand Cannons should deal 17+4 damage, minus armor. If the Condo has 5 pierce armor, than it should deal 16 damage (with no extra anti-infantry damage).

Hi @JasuniSmith
Condos receive no bonus damage from Gunpowder units, but because Burgundians deal +25% damage (including bonus damage) this bypasses some of the Condo resistance.
Thanks for the report!

It’s never advertised like this. It’s a fixed +10 resistance vs bonus damage to infantry armor class. You can check the fandom wiki or Genie editor.

I think that the bonus damage in this matchup is technically more of an oversight than a bug. The +10 was almost certainly chosen because it was the exact amount of bonus damage that hand cannons dealt (Burgundians weren’t around then, so their bonus wasn’t relevant back then). Then Condos got their own unique armor class so that non-gunpowder anti-infantry units could deal their normal bonus damage to Condos. Condos are labeled as an anti-gunpowder infantry, so taking bonus damage from a “new” civilization’s hand cannons (a unit they’re supposed to counter) is almost certainly an oversight.

It’s certainly intended. Another example, cataphract takes no bonus damage from regular camel riders but do take bonus damage from Gurjara camels. This is perfectly fine.
