Campaign DLCs - Thoughts?

With more civs being added via DLC, another main feature of AoE2 - campaigns - should start being look at for revamping.
First, we need to finish off civs which still lack a campaign, then

Would you like to see more than one campaign for each civilization?

There is plenty of room to make this happen. So many campaign options for each civ.

Are you willing to pay $5-$10 for 4-8 extra campaigns, for whatever civ?

Next, list some interesting campaign ideas (people/events) for any civ. I do think something like Charlemagne, William the Conqueror or some more crusades could make interesting campaigns.

What do you think?

I have no problem with more campaigns but i think we should hit the civs that don’t have campaigns first (like vikings, chinese, etc).

As long as campaign DLCs come with new civs, I don’t mind, but I’m not paying 14 CHF for something which I could get from the workshop.

I’ve never been a campaigns fan.

Yes ofc .

And Rus’.

For Rus’, St. Vladimir the Great would be nice - it even would feature Vikings.

Which people/events did you have in mind for Viking or Chinese?

Your poll reaction already gave this impression, but thx for clarifying.

i don’t have any specific examples - i just think it would be dumb for example for French to have another campaign before we give them to civs that don’t have one.

No problem, just saying my opinion as always

Agree with that. From the top of my head, Maya, Persia, Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Turks, Vikings need definitely a campaign.

Magyar, Slavs and Celts could benefit from a proper one too, considering the ones we have are mixed and not really about the civs they’re supposed to represent.

For both of you I want this too, but it’s likely they will be added in civ DLC if the 2 + 3 trend continues. I was more referring to content after civs, ie. DLC purely of campaigns.

Before we talk about multiple campaigns per civ I think each civilization should first have it’s own fully-fledged campaign, maybe a historic battle too but more importantly one campaign.

The Campaign Map should be fully revamped as we get more campaigns. Remove the Art of War and Historical Battles from the map.

The newest DLC is very underwhelming. It should have included a Viking, a Magyar and a Ruthenian campaign.

To me Mayans, Persians, Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Turks, Vikings, Magyars, Slavs, Celts and Byzantines need campaigns the most. The Celtic “campaign” is a joke. A single city does not show the diversity of the Byzantine Empire. Magyars and Ruthenians also have nothing, Dracula is a joke. Civilizations that already have a campaign shouldn’t get a second until these civilization recieve a first. The only expection in my opinion are Crusade campaigns where you could play every scenario with different civs.

The Campaign Map looks terrible. Where is Sicily and Scandinavia from Europe? West Asia is entirely missing. Saladin is an Asian campaign, not African. Historical Battles and Art of War icons should be removed and placed elsewhere. W. Europe and Europe should be merged. Both Joan of Arc and the Grand Dukes took place at France.

Harard Hardrada. He was the younger brother of the Norwegian king, who was killed by an uprising. He fled to the Kievan Rus where he allied with nobles and fought Turkic nomads. After that he travels to Constantinople and fight the Arabs, Turks, Italians, Normans (Sicilians) and Bulgarians as a Varangian Guard. Later he acquired the Norwegian throne and invaded Denmark. He also tried to conquer the British Isles. I think you should play as the Vikings in every scenario, however, in the Kievan Rus you should be able to train both Berserks and Boyars and you should be able to train Cataphracts in Mediterranean Battles.

A 7th century Tang Dynasty Campaign against the Koreans, Japanese, Turks (Gokturks), Tibetans and Uyghurs.

I generally only play campaigns aside from the odd MP match but I would like to see more SP content, especially for those who don’t have much. Indeed we got a campaign for the Britons, which is kinda cool.

So yes, more I say! (please?)

yes i know lool

time to edit it in isince people cant read between the lines here

I feel like a lot of people are missing out on the campaigns currently available in the workshop. There are many excellent campaigns, covering a lot of the civs and characters mentioned in this thread so far, that are already available for free. In fact there are enough that I don’t have the time to keep up with them.
