As all know, Wonders are nothing but a winning count down. It’s always too expensive to use, costing 3000 resources and 3500 seconds to build. Is it possible to make it much more powerful, like how AOM works: enter the 5th age, reduce cost of units and god power. Can Wonders in AOE2 do familiar things, like providing new technology?
They are not meant to be used in ranked play. Unless you are absolutely dominating your opponent and you just want to brag. They are there just to add some eye candy or objectives in certain scenarios. Same case with monuments which are indestructible but can be captured. Using triggers you can actually make monuments generate resources. Like a feitoria. Modify resources: Monument food (stone,gold,wood etc) productivity, set number.
They are fine as it is.
I once proposed that relics can be garrisoned inside in which they yield twice the gold they normally do. As most wonders are a religious building it would fit.
It would give them some use other than a victory condition that does nothing.

It’s just that at latest in voobly a powerful amount players decided they don’t wanted wonder victories.
And it makes sense on very “passive” maps not to have wonder v enabled. Land Maps that are more aggressive in style it would actually make sense to have wonder v enabled because on those it’s common to see a stalemate when the game lasts too long and a wonder could break that.
Actually when you think about it, Wonders could be used to train Heroes for every civ. In addition to giving some feitoria-like ressource income this could give Wonders in non-standard victory at least a function.
And we would solve the 3K Hero issue with it. All civs then get heroes with realistic associated costs but there is a huge paiwall to get them in ranked.

More use than winning the game?
Yes, something like in AoM or AoEO that gives you a unique general bonus when you build it… in AoE 3 the Asian wonders vary in use, some gives you resources, others units, the Great Buddha for example stops combat on the entire map for a minute…
But in those games Wonders don’t make you win the game so they have a different purpose
Sure, but I mean when the victory by wonder is not enabled…
Also once built wonders take some time to have their effect.
It seems like the shortest route to pissing off AoE2 fans even more, and after this DLC fiasco it doesn’t seem like a great idea to me.
Forgive my bluntness, but I think you should just hang out with the developers and go play another game together and leave AoE2 alone.

A building that lets you win the entire game needs new use? Why?
1- it takes some time to reach that victory
2- in some game modes a wonder doesn’t do anything so it has no uses there, except to show off “I can afford to burn that many resources”
If working like AOE is too OP, maybe it can be like a extra tech provider, and remove its auto win count down. For example, since Berbers’ Kasbah can make team castles work faster, its wonder can make the whole team train UU in Barracks/Archery Range/Stable as Goths and Huns. Or like provide Wei with Plate Barding Armor even Imperial Hei Guang Cavalry. These are strong, but not THAT OP. I think this will make it more useable in games.
