Can you still play multiplayer if you have the DLC but your friend doesn't

not everyone will buy the DLC right now, so… if you don’t and your friend does, can both still play together in multiplayer?

i think that without buying the DLC, you should still be able to play together, but of course, can’t select new civs from DLC… that should be the logic, but is there any official statement?

I think you can play together with them only difference is you can’t play as any of the new civs or perhaps the new maps that comes with it, the rest should be ok.
