During server maintenance it is not possible to start or join a LAN multiplayer games.

  • 100% of the time during server maintenance (ALWAYS)

Here’s the steps to reproduce the issue:

  1. Start AoE2 during a scheduled maintenance window.
  2. Note the multiplayer menu is grayed out and cannot be selected.

:point_down: What was SUPPOSED to happen if the bug you encountered were not present?
The multiplayer menu should still be active. It should be possible to start or join a local LAN game.

Although I do agree that it’s a bummer and might be unexpected to hear, but I’m sure that this measure is to prevent piracy and not a bug. They just (still) want to keep a foot in between when it comes to MP games albeit LAN or WAN. You can still play SP skirmish and campaigns.

I would like them to add the option to play offline through LAN if the game is installed on the main computer of the used MS account (based on computer trust).

My co-works and I like to play during our lunch break. I’m not sure when server maintenance is usually done but we have run in to this issue at least 3 times in the last couple of months. Including today (March 9th).

It is really frustrating to get everyone coordinated and pulling up the game, just to see that the multiplayer button is disabled.

I would like to see this changed as well. multiplayer LAN available even during service maintenance.

Just created an account here to back up this. Customers shouldn’t be impacted by corporate decisions to prevent piracy.

If it’s a bug, OK, I get it, it will hopefully be solved someday. If it’s a game design decision, this is an unacceptable purposeful limitation of the game’s usage. I paid for the game, I use features that should be available at any time, I shouldn’t be limited.

And for Pete’s sake, one does not schedule a maintenance for a game at 11PM =/
