Cav needs a nerf! its all over reddit

That’s not true with equal resources. What happens is that in the late game you can’t have more units due to the population limit; you need to have higher quality units than quantity. The only unit with more armor (both), attack, and HP is the heavy knight. That’s the default way the game was designed. Now imagine if the best unit in the game were the man-at-arms; with its movement speed, the game would be slow, wouldn’t it?

The knight will be less powerful if he has a larger population.

The problem stems from having many large and open maps in team games, and the spearman’s passive ability needs to be addressed. It’s also true that some civilizations have very powerful cavalry. I don’t think it’s such a complicated solution.

Zanma Swordman

Well, I don’t want to give false hope, but the Jurchen are introducing a new Imperial Age (IV) anti-cavalry infantry unit, the Zanma Swordsman.

Since the Spearman is already responsible for anti-cavalry, one might wonder how OP this unit will be against cavalry. Maybe is the right Cavalry-Couinter unit for Late Game we are finding, in term of cost population-versatility aggainst the same number of knights (80 zanma vs 80 knight).

If it performs well, the developers could consider giving more unique Imperial Age infantry units to various civilizations, including China and the HRE:

  • The HRE could, in fact, eventually get the Landsknecht Pikeman for Imperial Age (IV), a super-spearman with increased range and HP, as well as a special anti-cavalry charge attack.

  • I would also give the Zanma Swordsman to China.

That unit will be probably same as armored spearman from knights templar

I think the only problem is with the sengoku mounted samurai. It is so op because of the daimyo attack speed and most importantly movement speed upgrade. One of best heavy cavalry of the game shouldnt be running faster than light cav. It is a big problem. I think they should limit movement speed upgrade to only yari cavalry not all cavalry and maybe increase the price of the upgrade a little.

This game definetly needs a standing defence against cavs for the team games.Because here what it happens you made crossbows and spears you won against the cav but then he outmanuver your army and attack your friend. You cant catch those cav and they will kill lots of villagers while you reach there to defend your friend.Cav is a serious problem in team games.Somehow sengoku prints endlessly of them.

Use walls strategically by blocking escape routes. If you don’t fully enclose the walls they typically won’t bother to burn them down.

If they have cav in your base then they don’t have military in theirs, do small raids on exposed parts of their economy. Best done with your own cav for better mobility.

Once castle age hits defensive emplacements aren’t very useful, especially if they are mass producing knights. At that point the battles become much more decisive, if you get wiped you’re probably dead then, if you wipe them you can use that momentum to pin them in their base and finish from there.

The one thing you cannot do is just let them attack you and only respond by killing the raiders. That is sure to lead to defeat. Most of the time it turns into a war fought through opportunity cost or attention span. Losing a knight or two but killing 3 villagers, or idling 10 or so for 30 seconds is enough to offset the resource cost.

That being said… the game heavily favors having cav in your army more than any unit type. That defines the imbalance, and it only gets worse in team games.

I agree. Maybe make it easier to rush their bases. Obviously there’s a certain demographic that is happy playing like that. That way they can play like that and those of us that want to play an RTS can play more amongst ourselves.

It wont work always because some people go fast castle and try to gather relics. In this situation if you didnt go cav you lost.If you go cav and your civ dont have knights they can supress your raid.Specially sengoku advances too fast i dont know how is that posible because on paper they dont look so op.

Thats the what im talking about some civ literally advance too fast and print knights and if one of your team mates dont make army to gather all relics its over.

So you can understand why some great empires need to build walls to prevent harassment from nomadic cavalry, such as the Great Wall of China. If you find cavalry annoying and difficult to deal with in games, let alone the reality where cavalry are like a bunch of thugs riding motorcycles robbing everywhere. Age of Empires Ⅳ can refer to the cavalry suppression mechanism in Age of Empires III for dealing with cavalry. In Age of Empires III, almost no one would build a large number of cavalry units for combat, which is very foolish. There are too many units that can suppress cavalry, and the suppression bonuses are very high. Cavalry are as vulnerable as paper when facing these units. Cavalry in Age of Empires III is not the main force, but just one component of the troops.

I feel this patch doesn’t go far enough.

You should make it so the Knight’s charge bonus only kicks in about a second after entering the charge state. Right now, you can still trick the unit into charging while standing still just by clicking a target on the far side.

That’s a mechanic that’s way too niche for the average player to master. Let’s just get the mechanics right first, to make 'em actually user-friendly. We can worry about the numbers later.

yes, this. For ages I have dreamed of reduce in size of team games maps, It’s so much more fun and diverse.

I understand for some players it’s nice to be building your base in peace for tad longer and then just have one game ending confrontation but I truly feel even lower level players would eventually start appreciate how the game flows if maps would be smaller.

The cramped maps in team games are by far the most fun. When one plays for example 1v1 for a while, it’s really hard to come back to that mindless cavalry chasing BS that 3v3 and 4v4 are
