I’ve been thinking whether it’d be possible to have options or official mods changing the civs’ voicelines. Pick English or Welsh for Britons, Urdu or Afghan for Hindustanis, etc. This way you can have representation without making new civs. (Britons already represented both Wales and Angevin England in campaigns.)
I’d love to have them. The problem with the Fins (or their strength ;D) is their peacefulness. There are very very little wars pre WW1
Finnic peoples were the target of northern crusades and expansion of the Rus duchies. Many wars to pick from, I suggest Lembitu as a campaign protagonist.
Lithuanians is there for that. What could be added is some scenario editor units which reflect these minor factions.
Eh, Varangians probably would fit better than Lithuanians.
I’m honestly surprised by that. It validates the idea that Russia and Ukraine have the same origin, which is very controversial at the moment.
Oh, they have a very convenient excuse for that: they say Ukraine is the REAL heir of the Rus, while Russia is just Golden Horde with new management ![]()
nice find. I am all ears
It can be used to posit the idea that Ukraine, not Russia, is the heart of the East Slavs as Kyiv was the “ancient capital” when Moscow was still an unsettled forest. At least that’s my understanding of the idea.
I think it might tie Russia moreso to the Duchy of Moscow as an aggressive upstart that is far younger, but yeah the tie in is that Ukraine is the real heir of the Rus.
Realistically I think both are heirs of the Rus, but went different directions from there; Ukraine moreso in the direction of the free spirit of the Cossacks, Russia in the direction of the drive to dominate that originated with the Muscovites.
Wishful thinking they dont.
Ok, but ist it strange if you have umbrella term civ name, than a civ that is one of the civs from the umbrella term. ?
Which word are you referring to?
We already have that with Slavs, Saracens, Turks, and (arguably) Franks.
Viking. (But also, every word – otherwise I’d be writing this in Proto-Indo-European.)
in a addition to the civs TommoChocolate mentioned, we already have that with Chinese and with the Romans-Byzantines situation
arguably Teutons (who represent the HRE) with Bohemians, and now Saxons

Not even that, you wouldn’t be talking at all, its impossible to get even there. But you are just trolling, or mybe I am bad at english language and don’t understand it well enough.

We do, but as we are splitting and detailing nations, we should go along the line of indian split. Thisway you remove the umbrella civilization. But i know its done because than they have to fix all campaigns and stuff..
Unlike you, I think it’s perfectly possible to make this change
Actually, I’m absolutely convinced that the devs could rename the current “Britons” to “English,” and I’m not the only one who thinks they would have done so after the Indian DLC. Instead, things have gotten worse.
The Celts could actually be renamed something else, too. What you can only do via DLC, however, is add new gameplay, voice acting, or assets; otherwise, it simply wouldn’t be sustainable.
Hopefully Celts only for AoM
I mean we still only have 2 civs in Mexico 3 in Africa and 4 in South America
Africa, more than anywhere else in the world. I remain convinced that North America and Oceania can be ignored.
We have one for mexico and other for the yucatan area.
You do realize that only helps my point right? If we can have several German or Celtics tribes a bunch of American ones wouldn’t be remiss
