Chicken sounds still too loud and frequent

In July PUP there was this, which I think eventually made it to the main game:

… but chicken sounds are still too loud and frequent, imo. I don’t enjoy matches w/ chickens simply because of their sounds. I often go an entire match without using chickens for food, but their cackles endure the entire game.

Is it possible for devs to make them cackle for only like 1 or 2 minutes so we know they’re there (with lowered audio still, though), and then after that silence them?

While doing (or after I’ve done) boar, sheep, fishing boats (where applicable), berries, and farms, the last thing I want to to do is task villys to go get chickens just to make them quiet. I’ll do chickens for food if I want to, but I don’t enjoy my hand being forced to do so just because their sounds are annoying and repetitive

Lol, just imagine if there was a Polynesian civ that started with 3 chickens. T90 would flip.

I’ve watched some T90 videos and know he doesn’t like certain sounds (like maybe those llama or whatever that go, “Wehhhhhh” in a long drawn out sound? I don’t like those either), but he hates chicken sounds, too? Excellent! I have a famous ally in eSports! Devs will definitely make more adjustments now

I haven’t watched T90 enough to know what he’s said about Polynesian civs, though. What did he say?

Nothing. I was just saying that if there was one that started with chickens, the sound would be very annoying to him.

I personally like the sound of chicken in the game…

I’m also curious: have you seen foxes in the game yet? I haven’t seen any.

I like them, too, just not so loud, mainly :frowning: I don’t notice the boars making much (or any?) sounds, yet I know they are there. (I don’t need a loud acoustic reminder every 5 seconds for two hours letting me know they are there)

Fox? Yeah! I have seen those little fellas  I seem to play Arabia a lot lately, so that may be where I saw them. Start a match vs. AI with “reveal map” enabled, and quit → re-launch a handful of times to get different biomes and see if they appear

You can easily disable their sound with an empty audio mod.

Hopefully it is easier to edit chicken sounds quieter than it is for battle horn/alarm sounds that are impossible to change

Forsooth, mine chickens screamed far too loudly and frequently.

No wonder thou wert victorious! I shall abdicate.

Open notepad save as xyz.wem to create an empty audio file. Make sure to select “all files” in file type.

Rename the file name xyz to the audio you want to remove -

For Chicken Idle: turk1.wem, turk2.wem

For Chicken Death: adeath.wem

Place the files within mod directory in this folder structure \resources_common\drs\sounds\

Done.

Too bad I actually just want them more quiet. But this is good info to know, in case I never spend the time needed to edit chicken sounds :chicken:

Ideally, devs will just fix the sounds. They are disproportionately disruptive. Background environment sounds from small poultry should not be so intrusive and jarring to the overall game. Should not stand out so much. Should be more harmonious
