China and Mongolia should exchange counterweight trebuchet and traction trebuchet

Sharing / exchange, are good settings!

Traction trebuchet was set as the exclusive unit of Mongolia after the public beta. It was a general unit before. In fact, traction trebuchet can become a general unit of several countries like archers cavalry.

From what I’ve read, it seems like the mangonel for ALL civs should actually be a traction trebuchet. The current mangonel is ahistorical. The counterweight treb should also be available to all civs, though the Mongols and Chinese might get it later.

Isn’t the traction trebuchet being a weaker brother?
I think the Mongols having this because of balancing reason. If they access to huihuipao (of course not the campaign one) it will be quite OP. You know Mongols can deploy their siege right at the enemy gate like an instant spawn.

Perhaps a better setting is that China also uses traction trebuchet…

Why did the production team change the traction trebuchet from a general unit to a Mongolian exclusive unit?

It’s true that China didn’t invent counterweight trebuchet by itself, the Mongol learned from Arab and bring it to China. But after that, it just become a regular part of Chinese battlefield, all armies in China use it. The Mongol Yuan dynasty used it obviously; in the war to overthrow Yuan dynasty, many rebels also used it, I searched the keyword “襄阳炮” in ancient texts website, and found Ming dynasty records mentioned Xu Da’s army used it against Zhang Shicheng. It’s just that cannons become popular too quickly after Ming, so counterweight trebuchets didn’t see more uses.

If Chinese cannot have counterweight trebuchet just because they are not the first inventor, then Rus can’t have strelets, all non-Chinese civ can’t have hand-cannon, all non-Celtic civ can’t have mail armor…every unit is only available to the inventor civ.

The counterweight trebuchet was not invented in China. The traction trebuchet was used most of the time in Chinese history. The counterweight trebuchet was not used much in Chinese history. It was frequently used in wars in Europe and Central Asia. Mongols rely on Arabs to invent the counterweight trebuchet and let the Chinese people realize this new thing. Therefore, we think it is more reasonable for China to use the traction trebuchet in the game and Mongols to use the counterweight trebuchet.
