Destroy all relics I guess

How necessary is Chemistry for every civ? For any with guns yes sure but if you don’t have gunpowder does it really cost you much? Its 1 ranged damage on all targets costs as much as bracer but adds no range. It seems like it could be removed from a civ without gunpowder without destroying the game

For ranged units you need a replacement

Beyond that, yeah its not that important really

I’m not sure it matters, since I think most people play Conquest anyway. Destroy all relics makes sense, though I’d imagined it would just make relic victories impossible once at least one relic was destroyed.

It depends how much the civ depends on either gunpowder or ranged units, and how much of a late-game civ it is.

Byzantines Rework:

  1. Militia line: Replace the champion upgrade with the Varangian Guard. Could have a mix of more/less armor, or hp or attack than a champion. e.g. more attack but less hp.
  2. Cheirosiphon: Replace the Ram line with the Cheirosiphon. Same function but has a lingering fire dmg effect like the Jurchen UU.
  3. Greek voice lines!
  4. New architecture set to be shared with Bulgarians, Armenians, Georgians and the future Serb and Romanian civs.

Currently, AOE4 has the best representation of Byzantines imho. And it’s sad that AOE2 is behind in such a major Medieval civilization.

wont these fit better with the slavic set?

Both medieval nations had architecture styles that derived from Byzantine architecture.

Alania being a caucus civ means regional fortified churches and Mules. Yes Alania churches were imposing.

The most crossover civ would be Sogdians: trade crossroading all over the world for weapons, and all sort of goods means Caravanseri fits well. Oriental trade introduced gunpwder and incendiary rocketry. It’s positional enough for the steppes and camels yet also for elephants. Possibly even closely enough to Persian since Sogdia owned Samarkand so… Savar?

Maybe too much but it can be logical

I’d like to see Shock Infantry armor just renamed to Shock Armor so it could be on non infantries to encourage sword usage vs say a cavalry or archer type with that armor

I think if light cav had shock armor the militia would be in a healthier place

Maybe? But would they have like +1/2/3 shock just so every infantry unit isn’t good against them and mostly just swords

To be fair, I think you could use the shock infantry armor fairly liberally

Mamelukes had archer armor until not long ago

fair but shock is usually more specific. Can the description be called ā€œshock cavalryā€ and will people get the idea it’s also weak to swordsmen?

Could they have Fire Lancer and/or Rocket Cart?

would be possible, just like the Vietnamese.

I think so, although it woukd be easier to add a ā€œstrong vs shock unitsā€ to the militia descriptions

Went on and conceptualised my own take on Kanenmbu, part of a larger concept DLC.

Would that be historically accurate though? I don’t have much knowledge on Thai/Siamese. I have some ideas on an Elephant+Gunpowder civ. But don’t want to propose a historical bonker civ.

No it wouldnt

Siam arose fairly late in the timeline and all I have found about usage of gunpowder implies that they didnt adopt it early on

Isn’t this similar to the Poles’ Folwark mechanic?
