CK3 is making the DLC many people expected from AoE2

While AoE2 has just made a DLC about China in a medieval game ignoring the medieval period, CK3 is adding all medieval ASIA in their next DLC later this year, including every potential Asian cultures and civs that AoE2 fans have on their wishlist (China, Manchuria, jaranease islands, indonesia, indochina, Philippines…).

What a terrible idea, they should have made the expansion about King Arthur (full with dragons, the holy grail and the lady of the lake, not setting it correctly in the invasions period), that’s the low-hanging fruit that will sell according to the marketing team :upside_down_face:

Paradox often makes the right decision. I’m more interested in EU5 for which they did an amazing job when it comes to design decisions.

The Chinese wouldn’t buy it because they only know about 3K.

Paradox is a small company. Their devs need to eat and refill their gas and pay their rents. I’ll buy any DLC they offered as long as it keeps the game from growing

I looked at the map and noticed a glaring problem: it’s too historically accurate. While accuracy is important for a historical game, gamers don’t really care because accuracy is actually not important for a historical game, so they should make some changes to sell more copies.

The most glaring issue is that China seems to be one kingdom (Song), while ideally it should be divided into three (while still keeping the Song in place). That will make it into the best-selling Paradox DLC ever, and it will make so much money that the next DLC will have half the content at the same price.

The map looks like the 1066 start date (France and the HRE are formed, so is England, the Roman Empire is still strong after Basil II and it’s a few years before Manzikert…) and the Song still held most of China at the time, while the Liao held northern China including modern day Beijing.

I looked at other 1066 maps and they all have a big Song covering the southern 3/4 of China.

Despite having a 867 start date, I assume the 1066 one is more popular as it already has the modern kingdoms instead of whatever mess the Carolingians were doing at the time.

The third start date in 1178 should have crusader states and a turkish-controlled Anatolia, as well as England controlling much of France, as notable features.

That’s cool and accurate and all that, but think about it: keep the Song for historical accuracy, split China into three kingdoms (not counting Song) regardless.

The result? A bajillion sales. Paradox just has to split China into three, that always seems to make money!!! If World’s Edge did it succesfully, other companies should follow suit.

Yeah, a bit of cool factor won’t hurt. Give ingame China the fantasy roster of Grand Cathay from Warhammer, such as giant animated statues, lantern hot air balloons that you can use as bombers and chinese dragons :upside_down_face:

And give them Empire units too. Lore accuracy doesn’t matter!! And give them a Monkey King hero unit. We don’t know anything about him in the lore yet, but he’s a Wukong expy, so… Sales guaranteed.

Those 5 dynasties and 10 kingdoms need to hire a better marketing team because they’re not as popular. Can we instead make it to be, let’s say… 5 dynasties and 10 kingdoms and three kingdoms? For better sales, of course…

Of course, 1066 is a good year to start the game, since there is not so much chaos on a global level…the Vikings do not attack as much anymore, there are 5 years left for Manzikert and Byzantium still enjoys great power after annexing the First Bulgarian Empire during the reign of Basil II, there are still 30 years left for the Crusades and the Song dominate East Asia…on the other hand, in 867, the Carolingian Empire is decomposing and the Vikings roam freely attacking everyone, Kievan Rus is just being formed, the Abbasids are divided and so is China and in the case of 1178, you have the Crusades with Saladin on the rise, the HRE the same with Barbarossa and the Song are at war with the Jin…

It makes sense…and if you play with the Tang you have to make them hold out until the Song arrive…

Yeah, anyway, there’s not much to know other than “the Chinese split into different kingdoms again until they unify again 5 decades later”…

It’s mainly as it’s the earliest date to have norman/english England. A chaotic start is of little concern, for EU5 it will start in 1337 with the start of the Hundred Years War, just after the Ottomans took some major byzantine city in Anatolia and the Black Death only a few years away, so you’re heavily incentivised to do a rush war before the plague halves your population.
