My dudes, what happened to classic mode?

It’s currently only available in custom single player games.

That’s upsetting. Thanks for the quick response rhrmn!

Really? Common devs, you can do better than this. We need classic mode in campaigns too.

Unfortunately, Definitive Edition campaigns are made using the new scenario format, while also making use of the new objects. Some of the campaigns have received considerable changes (e.g. the Yamato campaign). To play Campaigns in Classic Mode you would need to actually use the original campaigns from 1999.
We will eventually extend the Classic Mode to more areas of the game, such as Multiplayer (temporarily disabled for some underlying issues) and Custom Campaigns, as well as possibly new custom scenarios in the Scenario Editor.

@StepS Good to know. Sad to see that the Campaigns won’t be available in Classic Mode, but i’m happy that it will be expanded in the future.

Dude, you didn’t realize this was made by greed, money and nostalgia?
Is normal in these days.

Would be glad to see that!

Yet the campaigns are just as tough. Forgot how hard it was to play those with 50 pop cap limit. Personally I don’t mind they are not available in classic mode but for completeness sake, yes of course they should be.

What happens if I make a new custom scenario with these new objects (you say that we will be able to have Custom Scenarios on classic mode in the future) and try to play it on classic? I couldn’t spot anything really different or innusitate on the campaigns, by the little that I played. So far I only concluded that they are kind of a remaster of what we had in the original game.

Sorry for so many questions right now, but I’m kind of concerned about this detail.

Any new scenarios created with AOE DE will be in the new .aoescn format. Like previously said in the pre-release media, there’s no backwards compatibility with the original game, so neither the original game nor the Classic Mode can use those scenarios. This is why new campaigns are not playable in the Classic Mode, since they were made with the new format.
If you attempt to start a new-format scenario in Classic Mode, it will be forced into Definitive Mode anyway.
Regarding Custom Scenarios, I more specifically meant creating new Classic Scenarios using the DE Scenario Editor, which is not possible right now, but may be possible in the future. You can actually already play Classic Scenarios created with the original game, as long as you choose Classic Mode when creating a custom game. Edited the post to reflect this.

■■■■■■■■ i love this game!

Thanks for the info on this

Honestly I did not expect such a function, it is certainly a good thing for old fans

@StepS If we were to import all the old campaign scenarios into the new game folders and from there create a new custom campaign, would that work?

I guess you could try playing each old campaign mission as a scenario, and select classic mode for it. The actual campaign player might still play it in definitive mode
