Classic Roman Legionary?

The currant Legionary in the game seems be based on the late Roman unit the Comitatenses.

We can keep the late one, sure. But I would like a more classical Roman Legionary too.

For a Roamn Republic civilization, it should have the more classical look. A infantry version the Centurion, and whole list of changes for the civ.

It wouldn’t work for the era the game attempts to represent. The comitases make more sense for the very end of Rome.

The Threee Kingdoms DLC has open Pandora’s Box in terms of possibilities. So, the Roman Republic could be justified to exist. Or at least, an more early Roman Empire, that still used classical legionary.

Yeah. That was a mistake imo. Tibetans, Gokturks and Bai (Dali) would’ve been better in my opinion

Edit: Had bai twice

From what I could gather. So, even the Empire was still using the classic Legionary for a good while.

Three Kingdoms timeline: AD 220-280) from what I could gather.

The classic Roman legionary system, with its characteristic heavy infantry formations, gradually declined and was eventually replaced by other military formations in the 3rd century AD.

Since the Chronicles went online, I believe there is really no reason for them not to join the forces of the classic Romans, otherwise it would be embarrassing.

All things considered not that much changed for Rome between 220 and 312, on the strategic level (population nerfed by the plague, germanic and persian pressure growing, a cycle of civil wars…). This is no longer the conquering empire in shining armour.

The classical legionary in lorica segmentata would be a great reskin for RoR or maybe a too-end unit if they add the Romans in Chronicles (though it would probably be for the punic wars, 2 centuries before Augustus), but for AOE2 proper… maybe at most a special scenario editor unit, “imperial legionary”, be it a reskin of the legio or having a bit more pierce armour (the protection offered by this armour was excellent, it was said to stop a scorpion shot which would be equivalent to a modern body armour stopping a .50 BMG shot, in relative performance).

Rome more exactly western Rome together east Rome and , legion in game exactly skin they are after 3 century

Chronicles is based on the Rome at War mod.
We can expect them to add Romans to Chronicles sooner rather then later.
And those Romans will surely have classical Legionaries as unique units.

With the Fire Lance we already have a melee unit with a ranged charge attack. Something that would work perfectly for Roman Legionaries.

I don’t get why adding three 3 “civs” (states) from the 3rd century AD would allow adding the Roman republic which is a BC thing (or even just the principate for that reason).
Again I’m noticing people have no idea of what late antiquity means.

Right. The Late Antiquity is an era, that is not well known to people. Probably because it is the so called Dark Ages..
