Since the development and test team may uses English as their primary game language, bugs which appear only in certain languages may never be focused by the team. Unfortunately some bugs are actually very serious and should be handled with high-priority. Here I’ve collected some of them and also provide some suggestions for bug fixing.
Fuzzy In-Game Font Glyph Display
Priority: High
Issue: the in-game characters displayed in the screen will be fuzzy (especially for CJK characters) when using a certain display resolution (1920x1080, etc.)
Possible caused by: The font texture file (*.dds in “fonts” folder) is not properly Anti-aliased or is generated under a low resolution
Possible suggestions:
- Add support for font-related file modding and allow users to change in-game font using mods. Currently providing font file in mods is allowed while actually it does not work since the game does not load them from mods. (Suggested)
- Generate new font texture file with a better quality.
- Change the font rendering implementation and use standard font file (.ttf, etc.) for glyph rendering.
Charset is incomplete
Priority: High
Issue: Lots of CJK character glyphes are missing and will be displayed as an question mark “?” in text. It affects almost all the situations during the in game play, including player’s name, in-game chat message, scenario script texts, tooltip messages, etc. Some build-in scenarios text and messages are also broken.
Possible caused by: The font texture file is generated using a incomplete charset.
Possible suggestions:
- Add support for font-related file modding and allow users to change in-game font using mods. (Suggested)
- Generate new font texture file with a wider range charset support.
- Change the font rendering implementation and use standard font file (.ttf, etc.) for glyph rendering.
Incorrect Word Break for CJK characters
Priority: Medium
Issue: The in game text breaks word incorrectly when the content consists of CJK characters and standard numbers.
Possible caused by: The current word breaking strategy depends on white spaces in the text. While this strategy does not work for East-Asian languages, since they do not add spaces between words.
Possible suggestions: Change the word breaking strategy for East-Asian language version of the game, or provide a configurable setting for it.
Low Quality (Maybe Machine-Based) Translation
Priority: Medium
Issue: Some text sentences in the game are not even readable for users.
Possible caused by: Machine based translation is used without human reviewing.
Possible suggestions: Take effective auditing and quality supervision for translation!
None Authentic Translation
Priority: Low
Issue: The chosen words for translated special terms are not publicly recognized or authoritative
Possible caused by: The translation team is not professional
Possible suggestions: Find a more professional team for localization, and listen to the community feedback for text improvements.
