Crash to Desktop - Few minutes into every game

I’ve been having this exact same problem and my specs are:

i7-6700K
32GB RAM
1000W Corsair PSU
Asus Z270E Motherboard
EVGA 1080Ti GPU

Has anyone found any fixes? I’m running the latest version of the game via Steam and it crashes to desktop without any errors on multiplayer games with friends.

Joining the chorus of this particular issue. I have created a ticket with the support and hoping for some understanding soon of this annoying software glitch!

Same issue, the game starting crashing yesterday, now it crash every multiplayer game, its frustrating really. I’ve tried with vsync on and off, no changes. Is there a fix or something? before the game freezed for some seconds and then restarted, now it is only freeze and crash. no sense
My pc has:
i5 8400
16gb ram
gtx 1060 6gb

I SOLVED MY PROBLEM.

THE SOLUTIONS WERE THESE;

I created a new log from Registry, I am putting the path of it.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers (Make sure that GraphicDrivers folder is left clicked from the left side.

After that a new window will be opened at right.

In this path from the right side, right click>new>DWORD(32BIT) VALUE

Rename the value as TdrLevel (Make sure that T and first L are capital letters.)

The value data must be at 0 (THIS IS IMPORTANT.)

I reverted my graphics drivers to older version and did a clean setup. After I updated it to current version with a clean installation.

I did an reset to my Bios to return default settings.

After these steps I had no crashes. I hope this will be helpful to you guys.

Cheers.

I have also resolved my problem. Unfortunately, it required undervolting my graphics card. My graphics card was never overclocked. By lowering the power to 80% using EVGA Precision X1, I never crashed again. Have played at least 15 games without a problem. Weirdly, I was having DirectX crashes with Battlefield 2042 as well. Undervolting my graphics card fixed the issue with both games. I have absolutely no idea why this should be a problem.

Of note, I did try previous poster’s solution (the registry edit) several weeks ago during initial troubleshooting and it did not resolve my issue.

I use McAfee LiveSave and ever since I removed the AoE4 .exe file from the live scan, the crashes have stopped. Perhaps it can help somebody else.

Game was fine for me and my friend till today.
Today my friend had 6-7 crashes and i had it now.
really lame, everytime it counts as defeated :frowning:

we’ve done:

  • Nvidia Driver Update + Fresh Install
  • Windows Updates
  • Steam Repair Game
  • Re-Install Game via Steam
  • Restart PC

PC Specs:

  • i9 9900K
  • 32 GB RAM
  • 1080 TI

the RelicCardinal.exe is the actual Game.exe

Same issue here. Consistently crashes to desktop.
I went to the point of reinstalling Windows 10 and all graphics drivers from scratch, just crashes to desktop without any error messages. WTF

I have also been having this issue since launch. Some days I have 5 games no crash, and then today I had 3 crashes in a row. Ruins my game experience.

I have a Ryzen 2700X, and an RTX 2080 Super, with 32GB DDR4 3200MHz.

My error log also indicates GPU timeout

I thought it might be software related, so completely nuked my windows install, but even with fresh windows 10, just graphics drivers and AOE4, I crashed in my first game. I tried underclocking and lowerring my power limit for my GPU, and had a couple of days with no crash- but today I had 3 in a row.

Really hope this can be figured out and resolved. I submitted my log files.

I’m having the same problem. I submitted my DxDiag, warnings.log, session_data, and Windows Event Viewer errors…

I can play for 5-10 minutes, then it crashes to desktop without any errors or warnings. SOMETIMES I can see some artifacting or discoloration for a split second (if you blink, you’d miss it!) and that happens sporadically, followed by a crash a minute or two later.

I’ve tried every fix mentioned on this thread…

GPU: GTX 1080 Ti

Same problem here. Interestingly, while warnings.log doesn’t offer any helpful insight, event viewer reported that the game crashed due to an memory access violation (exception code: 0xc0000005.) That would mean, at least in my case, that the crash was likely due to software error.

Hey everyone, so I tried a bunch of suggestions over many weeks, including performing a completely clean windows install.

Things that didn’t work:

  • clean windows install
  • driver reinstall
  • disabling steam/geforce overlays
  • lowering GPU clock speeds
  • Enabling vsync (at 144hz)
  • Lowering graphical settings
  • Editing Registry to increase wait time for GPU unresponsive

Things that might have worked:

  • capping frame rate to 60Hz (I have a 144Hz 2k display) - no crash since
  • reset bios and clear XMP profile (I did this a while after capping frame rate, for a different issue, but may also have helped stability)
  • most recent AOE update (no crash since)

So if you have a higher than 60hz display, try capping to 60hz and see if that has any impact for you.

The 120hz to 60hz fix did it for me. Thanks MagnesiumBurn.

I didn’t try anything else either.

It fixed it for me when I updated my bios.

Same problem here. I’ve tried lots of methods but none of them works. I used to play the game 8 hours a day and it never crashed. I think the problem appeared after I updated my Graphics Driver (RTX 3070). Warning log:

In case you have more than 1 graphics card, e.g. NVIDIA/Radeon + CPU-integrated graphics, try to disable the CPU-integrated graphics card through BIOS to avoid crash. Works for me.
