Cross play settings are broken after xbox release

:arrow_forward: ISSUE EXPERIENCED

It’s not a bug per se, it’s rather a consequence of the xbox release. So far we got 2 platforms: Steam and Microsoft. Cross-play was a setting that allows Steam players to play with Microsoft players.

Now, after Xbox release, this setting doesn’t make sense anymore. The vast majority of users will not care what platform the opponent is using, they will rather care about what controller device they use because this can make a huge difference in competitive games.

IMO cross-play settings should be divided into two:

  • [x] Cross-platform enabled (allow Steam/Microsoft players to play together)
  • [x] Cross-input enabled (all players using different input devices play together, regardless of platform)

// EDIT:
I’ve just realised that cross-input settings exist on xbox, but they are in the multiplayer menu. The issue described here still exists though because such a feature doesn’t appear for PC players. Cross-input settings should be implemented for all platforms.

Always

:arrow_forward: REPRODUCTION STEPS

  1. Use Microsoft launcher to start the game
  2. Disable cross-play

:arrow_forward: EXPECTED RESULT

Expect to be matched with mouse/kb players only.

:arrow_forward: What happens instead?

As a keybord/mouse player having cross-play disabled I can be matched against xbox players because cross-play depends on the platform where platforms are only Steam or Microsoft. The Microsoft platform is not broken between xbox and PC.

So even if this isn’t really a bug it’s not an intended behaviour for sure.
