Crossbow cause way more damage to heavy armor than light armor?

crossbow cause way more damage to heavy armor than light armor. typical unreal design

Think of it like this:

When you puncture heavy armor you are also sending shrapnel from it into the person wearing it. It also presses the armor into them, potentially causing abrasions with friction.

With light armor it doesn’t do anything more than pierce the target. It doesn’t cause the same level of harm.

That’s more about understanding the game’s logic, you really aren’t wrong! Crossbows were used in medieval battle because they could be easily manufactured, transported, and trained with minimal time compared to warbows.

Warbows typically were just as, if not more, effective than crossbows.

It’s about 30 minutes long, but the relevant info is at ~11 minutes.

If a metal bolt pierces you, whether your armor is light or heavy, “If it pierces” it does a ton of damage and can kill you. In fact, it makes sense that crossbowmen do quite a bit of damage to both Spearman and Men-at-Arms.

Now, what’s exaggerated is their reload time, which is too short for a weapon that took 30 seconds to reload, practically 2.125 seconds/attack, but I suppose it’s a matter of balance.

In the Beta version of the game, the crossbowmen’s reload time was longer, but their damage was still much higher; this can be seen in the first 4 campaign.

Oh lord, it’s about balance. Otherwise xbows and hc should 1 shot every unit.
Bombards as well.
Maa and knights should 1 shot every unit without armor.

Fights would take 5 sec. Good game. Better play counterstrike then.

Think of it this way

It doesn’t deal more damage, it ignores the armor. The +x vs heavy is just to simplify understanding.

When attacking unarmored units, crossbow or bow will deal similar amount of damage.

But when attacking armored, the crossbow pierce through it and deal full damage while the bow damage is reduced.
