CustomInstallerExec.exe always launches when trying to start the game if Xbox App is installed

Game Version:

  • Build: 100.1.46777.0
  • Platform: Microsoft Store
  • Operating System: Windows 10
  • Gamertag: Emkay1001

Issue:

Similar issue reported in the past: CustomInstallerExec.exe always launches when trying to start the game if it was installed using XBox App. This EXE is used to install missing dependencies but that process always fails as AOEURLHelper._XBLexe crashes. When Xbox App is installed, the game installs itself to c:\XboxGames folder (or whatever folder is selected in Xbox App) and that causes the crash for AOEURLHelper._XBLexe.

Workaround: uninstall AoE, uninstall Xbox App, install AoE from Microsoft Store (this will install it to c:\Program Files\WindowsApps), install Xbox App

Reproduction Steps:

Here’s how to reproduce the problem:

  1. Open Xbox App on Windows 10.
  2. Install Age Of Empires: Definitive Edition from Xbox App.
  3. Start the game.

And now it’s worse because the game will always install to c:\XboxGames even when no Xbox App is installed.

I´m really sorry, but the game is no longer under development…
I´d say, wait for the aoe2 dlc

Still, it’s an installer bug for MS Store version that should be fixed. Workaround: delete the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AppModel\StateChange\PackageList\Microsoft.Darwin_100.1.46777.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe in Windows Registry (which you can access using regedit.exe).
