Dark Age architecture rework ideas

As far as I can tell, the default Dark Age architecture set doesn’t suit any of the civilizations in the game. I don’t even know where the original artists referenced it from. It’s not necessarily a high priority for me, but it would be nice to see more accurate, regionally based Dark Age architecture.

Here are some references for what each set’s Dark Age buildings could look like…

Western European

Central & Northern European

Eastern European

Southern European

Middle Eastern

Steppe (Central Asian + Huns & Mongols)

South Asian

Southeast Asian

Northeast Asian

Mesoamerican

South American

African

I do think there are higher priority reskins, but it would be pretty cool to see architecture-set specific Dark Age designs at some point, because yeah the current Dark Age stuff is a bit overly generic and bland.

This is true, the only dark age thing that really irks me is the donkey in the mill for the American civs hahaha

Also I really wana know, what happens to that poor donkey after the Feudal Age wind mill revolution. :joy: :joy: :joy:

I like that it draws on Celtic influences in France and the British Isles.

Oh yes! Ancient Magna Germania.

It fits perfectly into lands from the Alps to the fjords.

Dugouts would be more appropriate. The Slavs were exceptionally late in starting to build more complex wooden structures like what you showed.

I would definitely prefer Roman ruins to this. I think everyone would prefer to see such a reference to the recently fallen Roman Empire - because of this, the Dark Age came.

The rest seem to be fine.

X doubt
Slavs had wooden banyas (bath houses) at least from the 1st century onwards. I doubt you can create a sauna out of hole in the ground…

Believe me, it is possible. Any quick reconstruction.

In the 1st century there were no Slavs in Europe yet. The Slavs, before Christianization, built huts and dugouts. Only the more important gords had some log buildings.

That circles back to the question of splitting the Med style notably into a Roman style (Romans & Goths as of now), starting in ruins then restored to a late roman style as you age up.

Wrong. Both romans and greek authors knew them under the name “wends” or “veneti”. The primary chronicles already mentioned slavic tribes around Novgorod by the time of apostle Andrew (1st century AD). Hence the bathhouses

There’s even a slavic reconstruction site… in northern Germany, called “oldenburg wall museum” (Oldenburger Wallmuseum - Das Museum). Reconstructed polabian slav settlements.
