It’s a gameplay-first, name-second sort of map, that’s all to it. Similar maps in AoE2DE tend to mask the straight partitions with more “naturalistic” coastline variations, but there may be both technical & balance (difficulty of controlling beachheads) reasons barring them from feasible here.
Flavor-wise, I think it may be better suited to a “reclaimed land” theme. Like Tenochtitlan, or Dutch Polders.
