Why not. Mbl beat Hera in Red Bull Wololo 5 in quarterfinals last game with only knight raidings. Hera is by far better player than Mbl. Viper is best but is becoming old and has wrist issue, Hera and Liereyy are both number 2. Mbl isn’t in same calliber as Hera but He beat him with raidings

Just because you’re the better player doesn’t mean you can’t be outwitted. You see it in sports all the time where a better team loses because the other team has a better plan for them.
Furthermore this says nothing about anything being against as you put it “initial design philosophy”.

What is your source for this claim. I know that Britons arbalest is better than Ethiopians arbalest but main power of extra range is countering other range units and being stronger in larger numbers. Btw, Ethiopians’ main advantage over Britons except 18% attack speed, is better siege in late game and better siege isn’t enough to justify to select a civ. If 18% attack speed doesn’t work for anything, why are people choosing Ethiopians. Ethiopians doesn’t have a lot better eco than Britons. Ethiopians is redundant civ according to your claim

Britons is easily a top 5 or 10 civ and we have commonly seen people complain about the extra range they have.

I still think that Britons archers are also better vs infantry and knights still, but the general statement that rof is better against melee and higher range better against ranged is absolutely true.

That wasn’t his claim. His claim was that extra range isn’t good against melee units. This goes back to his gokturks civ design. Here is the quote.
