Mangudais should be the most iconic mongol unit by far, and yet they’ve been garbage since the release of the game, especially in 1v1. They are absolutely unplayable, and this “buff” with +20 gold cost is a joke.
Rus horse archers cost 80 food and 40 wood while dealing double damage and with more speed.
Mangudais don’t even have the foot archer bonus damage vs spears, they’re good at nothing.
Will we ever have a mongol civ based on light cav hit and run micro intensive tactics, instead of this foot spears tower rush into merchants pile of garbage?
The unit i must agree has a high skill requirement to be useful. But at the same time the better your ability to micro the unit the stronger it is!
The early horseman buff for mongols with this buff for mangudai will synergies well. Because well micro’d mang can only be killed by a superior efficient mas of range units, and this efficiency will exasperated this requirement. And that’s where the efficiency of the horseman paired with the only strong feudal keshiks is gonna make 1v1 mongols (good players) hella annoyihg to deal with.
Civs that need the map, i believe will get shredded by this mangudai change.
The thing with mangudai is that they are very hard to balance. I mean right now even in team games you barely see them, but I switch to them in imperial. If u manage to break a wall and get into enemy eco it’s tough for them. You can run through trade route and kill everything.
They are expensive and squishy but still how you counter them? Archers? Yeah in a straight fight they #### ### they can just run away and u can’t catch them.
If u make them stronger it’s hard to deal with them.
Now they are weak but how u would balance a units which can’t get hit by infanterie while it kills them? Even cav is hard to kill them because u can make a hit here and there but u take more dmg by follow them.
I dont think so. Mangudai is too slow, have low range and bcse of that they die on their way even during the battle due to its extremely low range and low damage. No one picks this unit and is still hella expensive in this change. Keshiks are already the weakest knight and plus mangudai is just terrible.
Mangudai is countered by everything (except villager). Even by a standing deer bcse it blocks its way and the mangudai dies lol. It is extremely easy to counter mangudai bcse a wall(any) completely counters it.
i think you can do quite a few things to balance them:
take bonus damage from ranged attacks like janissaries
make shoot while moving a stance that can be activated, like shield wall for limitanei, that reduces the rate of fire
the problem is that they are unplayable atm, you can somehow do something in team games, but in 1v1 they’re the worst unit in the game.
In any case, a player who faces mangudais should build a few towers in its eco to protect villagers from raids
I can assure you, what you said is a valid observation at your league. What the devs have to balance is how do they make a concept approachable/achieveable at lower league YET not make it broken at higher leagues.
Nevertheless i believe the better ideas are the ones we the players collectively vet thru playing.
I swear, no one picks this unit, except they are trying to just waste their resources and this unit never gets a chance on the tourney. Bcse it is 100% waste of resources, time and apm effort. Have you seen any of this unit in tourney? Nope…
