Unfortunately, I was only abroad in one country - Lithuania (twice).
Beautiful country :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:. Vilnius is a wonderful city :heart:, it has a unique atmosphere.
I was very interested in the exceptional cleanliness, clean and tidy everywhere, no rubbish. Unfortunately, on the way to Vilnius, you can see many traces of the USSR :rage: - gray unsightly blocks :nauseated_face:. But I also saw almost virgin forests and colorful meadows :heart_eyes:

Soviet architecture is well known for being pragmatic and mass produced, to the point of being extremely ugly.
People need their living spaces to be human-thought, not made for machine-like production units.

Would certainly be a great DLC.

I know it perfectly well, because there is too much trash in Poland (luckily I live in a single-family house).

Blocks are the ugliest things that can be anywhere in the world.

Fortunately, many blocks of flats in Poland have a colored facade (at least not gray). Being in Lithuania on the way to Vilnius, we stopped in a big city - Alytus. Unfortunately, it was all gray :frowning:

But in terms of architecture, it’s hard to find anything uglier than socialist realism (not counting construction lawlessness).

i would suggest looking up mcmasions, which is pretty bad looking as well, perhaps not as soulcrushing as concrete blocks but still.

like it is people trying to replicate actually nice looking houses with cheap material and odd choices esp in details.

McMansions at least have a sense of style and livability.
Socialist Brutalism is so simplistic, it is as if made to crush your psyche.

People that live in old socialist towns are reported to be incredibly depressive, and it is in huge part due to the architecture and city planning around them.

So capitalism and communism both have extremely cheap and ugly buildings in common

Both are Materialim based and reduce the human soul to worker drone status, so they both degenerate into ugly machine-type living standards, that are unable to direct the full potential of Mankind.
They both also concentrate too much on production, and enforce a permanent expansionism due to overexploitation of resources and the social unrest their derived living standards manifest.

I believe History will not look kindly to Materialism derived politico-economic philosophies, in the long run.

They were basic, and we can do better, but Medieval and Early Modern houses were made by people, and for people (often the very same people that made them), so they instinctively feel right by human standards.

pretty poor to live in tho.

the high point of architecture in my country as far as i am concerned is the 1920s which left beautiful (typical white surfaced) houses.

eh

more so they reflected what was practical with developed technology, having a wooden floor would root and stone was kinda expensive so a lot of houses had the bottom just be dirt, while the next floor or 2 would be wood that was better for actually living in, however due to limitation in structural reinforcement the floors would stack outwards as the building got taller in a bit to try and keep the floor somewhat levelled.

It could have been worth of it if at least a new single player campaign was added. I’ve seen three new campaigns for AOE II with the latest DLC… nothing for III?

There are two types architectural styles in socialistic countries:

  1. Social realism. This is what @MUTYLATOR5553 sent in post above in Warsaw. We can see the point was to show how socialism is great and even better than capitalism. Mainly big and representative buildings were built according to this style (hotels, government buildings etc).

  2. Brutalist architecture. This is a valid architectural style which bears some level of art. Personally I am not fan of those buildings, they are too brutal (literally) in my opinion. Again this style was used for official buildings such as administrative complexes etc.

  3. Then there is the third “style”. Or rather its a way how to provide mass living for cheap money to masses. And thats what @MUTYLATOR5553 referred to as “gray blocks” I suppose. Somewhere its just four four-story buildings, elsewhere its a district of many 12-story (and more) buildings. They are awful because they do not respect surroundings but it was a quick way how to satisfy young families with accommodation. These buildings were built in 70s to the beginning of 90s. Now its a good argument for communists to show “how the communism was good” when prices of housing are skyrocketing.

Yes PLEASE! I would love 3 solid single-player campaigns that go in-depth on 3 of the European civs. A Pontiac’s Rebellion scenario would be good too.

I would honestly love a Conquest of Mexico campaign where you start off as archaic Spanish (similar to the Knights of St. John), then transition to controlling Aztecs, similar to the other Warchiefs campaigns, with consulate euro units as backup.

It would be a good way to show the complexities of the conquest, such as Cortes going against the wishes of the Cuban governor, Pedro de Alvarado’s incompetence and paranoia leading to the Massacre in the Great Temple, and the importance of the Spanish-Tlaxcalan alliance.
