Display units kill count

Hello,

One feature that could be interesting without any balance change is indicating the unit’s kill count in its info card, or if several units are selected, the sum for the group.

Cossacks uses that system. Which due to the game balance ran rise to high numbers if a ship of the line hammers an entire army…

Yes whether it’s a karambit warrior or a war elephant, it still only counts as one. It shouldn’t come with any veterancy bonus, just the indicator.

What do you think about that ?

Seems like info that I don’t want or need to see. I think it’s a feature already in Capture Age as I hear T90 make a comment about that sort of thing sometimes, so it can stay there, imo.

If you really want to see it, maybe there’s a mod you can make. Or maybe the mod already exists?

It would also take CPU power to keep track of it all. Imagine 500 units per civ for 4 or 6 players. CPU resources are already precious with this engine, I’d prefer other things be done with that CPU power

It wouldn’t be that heavy. Cossacks did that 25 years ago with up to thousands of units per player.

It’s perhabs also already monitored, some campaigns track the kill count of some heroes.

This will be new clickbait for Hera or Viper.

Starcraft I did it too

In the balance part of the upcoming update notes, the jaguar warrior will get an attack bonus for killing enemy units. So the game will be monitoring that, if it isn’t already being done (I suspect it is, for some heroes in some campaigns)

I guess it solves the question of CPU use, as it’s already being used.

They’re doing it for one unit of one civ and rhat is enough proof to you that the CPU hit would be negligible or nonexistent when doing the same for 2000 units? I think you might want more scientific evidence before jumping to that conclusion

I mean, maybe the game is already tracking this info real-time no problem for all units? And that tracking and displaying it for all would cause no performance issue?.. I don’t know. But the game already has framerate and out-of-sync problems in multiplayer games, I can’t imagine tracking and displaying this stat real-time for hundreds and thousands of units would help things

I think some Rome: Total War type of game did this type of tracking and makes your unit more powerrful over time (Veteran status). And/or maybe Civilization does it. I’m not a fan of that type of mechanic for AoE. Fine for one UU in one civ, but really don’t want veteran status buffs coming into play for a bunch more units, or all units, in AoE2:DE. Once it gets displayed for all units it is only a matter of time where devs find it necessary to give some type of special treatment or abilities to all veteran units

  • I already get annoyed by the mechanic of having to put heroes near your army or in the back in AoM to give nearby units an extra boost, or other strategic placements. It is well-intentioned, but I dislike having to track and keep alive famous units that give off an aura influence. I foresee veteran ststus becoming the same type of nonsense in AoE if this stat is ever added en masse, and I really don’t want to have to pay attention to where ‘veterans’ are in AoE2 or micro’ing their movement in battles. Even if they glowed or carried an extra flag or shoulder badge for.visibility, I really don’t wamt to know and don’t care. Too much of a gameplay distraction for me, and would hurt my enjoyment level

Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds does it as well with the Expanded Fronts mod and that game runs on AoE 2’s engine.
