I’m a huge fan of Age of Empires II and have been playing it since I was a child. I’ve played every official campaign and have longed for a campaign on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, one of India’s most legendary warrior king.
I’ve designed a detailed 7-mission campaign concept that I believe would be a big hit, showcasing how Shivaji started with almost nothing and went on to establish a powerful empire. This campaign offers stealth, guerrilla tactics, naval sieges, and a rich narrative arc — fitting perfectly with AoE2’s best historical campaigns.
Shivaji’s life (1630–1680 CE) is technically post-medieval but the game’s expansions (think African Kingdoms, The Forgotten) already stretch the timeline well into the 16th and early 17th centuries.
Would love the community’s thoughts and if it would be possible to share my request with the AOE 2 team
Yes, AoE 2 only goes up to 1598… at no point does it touch on the 17th century, as AoE 3 does (Japanese campaign and European historical maps)… furthermore, the Maratha Empire is an early modern empire, it wouldn’t fit well in AoE 2, and AoE 3 has several Maratha units… it could serve better as a Maratha campaign for AoE 3 (I was thinking at some point of porting Babur’s campaign to AoE 3 too)…
Yes agreed, some are late 16th century but not 17th. Thanks for the info, I’ve just played the US campaign on AOE3 long long back, will check out the India campaign. For some reason I’ve always enjoyed playing AOE2 more than AOE3
Yes, the US campaign in AoE 3 is kind of weird and has a lot of anachronisms; the Indian campaign is okay…
Probably historical period and that AoE 3 has weird mechanics…
Yes, but the same applies to the Germans (but at least you can consider them as part of the HRE as a whole, whereas with the Indians it’s a mix between the Mughal Empire and the East India Company)…
More or less, the Teutons in AoE 2 represent more the Teutonic Order than the HRE… there is no civ that represents 100% the Germans and having the Teutons and Germans in AoE 2 would be kind of weird, since in AoE 3 the Germans would represent what in AoE 2 are the Teutons (before being Prussians), the Bohemians (for the War Wagon/Hussite Wagon) and the Magyars through the Hungarian Revolution… in AoE 4 there is no problem because you have the Holy Roman Empire as a civ per se and that’s it…
At most, they would create a scenario showing the rise of the Delhi Sultanate in 1206, since the rise of the Mughal Empire is seen in Babur’s campaign…
