Don’t nerf Japan unnecessarily. The only thing that’s extremely unbalanced is the samurai; their HP and damage need to be reduced urgently. Japan only needs this change; don’t touch anything else.

Almost every japan unit is overtuned in some way.

u guys really think samurai are overtuned? I feel they’re fine. I think the problem with Japan is swampland and maybe Naginata riders with the inari okari upgrade.

the fastest horse in game plus bonus vs other horses in classic is very hard to deal with, kappa area is huge, tsukoymi moon with full armoy free + line upgrade free, samurai with special attack, life steal in a unity like samurai with high hp, attack and a special attack. Miko healing rate so high, it’s like a caladria, other unit so difficult to deal with it.

I don t even think their samurai needs tuning. But there are other bits I do think makes them quite lame. Perhaps its their scout that really annoys me. Kitsune raiding and all that.

About samurai I think need remove special atack, he almost kill other infantary counter like axeman, ta in one hit.

Other disguting thing, Kitsune, raiju so fast and has a capacity to raid hard + gold by damage, this is so cancer, no one unit can reach this thing, in special in team games.

That archer with upgrade to do bonus damage vs mu, why? There is a spammable hero archer, hero horse and other one slow but with a powerfull special, it’s not necessary.

My earlier criticism of Japan is that they’re good at a lot of things, but their freedom of choice isn’t meaningfully constrained. The Greeks are also strong in many areas, but they’re limited by their hero system, which forces more trade-offs. Japan doesn’t really have that kind of restriction.

If I had to choose two nerfs I’d most like to see, it would be Daimyos and New Moon. Maybe I’m reaching a bit, but Daimyos in particular feel like the core of the problem. If their pierce armor were lowered, the matchup would become much more reasonable. Samurai can already be countered by toxotes, and myth units can deal with Naginata Riders, but once you add a very tanky, high-pierce-armor cavalry hero on top, the whole counter system starts to fall apart.

Yes, I can build Prodromoi, but they have very low pierce armor, so they get shredded quickly. They get shredded by Yari Spearmen. On top of that, the long-range Bushi make everything even harder. This is especially problematic right when you hit Heroic Age, when you don’t yet have enough time to mass the proper counters.

One thing I’ve learned is not to go too hard on myth units—use them sparingly. A particularly nasty combo is when the opponent spams myth units, Naginata Riders, and then mixes in a few cavalry heroes. At that point my myth units become almost unusable, because the cavalry heroes take far too long to kill and can be massed easily. Even with Ares as the Greeks, my Prodromoi struggle to deal with it effectively.

Overall, it’s not just that Japan is strong—it’s that they lack meaningful trade-offs, especially around Daimyos and New Moon, which makes the matchup feel oppressive rather than just challenging.

A lot of people in AoM WhatsApp and Discord groups are thinking about quitting the game. If they fix the Japanese now, they’ll probably break things again on purpose when they release another overpowered civilization.

This is really disappointing. If they released something broken and patched it within a week, that would be understandable. But instead, players spend three months dealing with abuse in ranked games, only for the cycle to repeat with the next patch.

With Tysouomi. All they have have to do is nerf New Moon to a resource limit cap and itd fix it. but they won’t.

Heres another BS design about shingamis. Infinite respawning with hel of a Gonshinboku. They really messed this game up when they added Japan. Everyone plays it on customs because its much easier to play and win. Your mistakes as Japan is a lot more forgiving.

i heard a few ppl want to see swamplands changed. i personally don’t udnerstand this i think its a perfectly fine GP. but if they ever decide to still nerf this GP for whatever reason i would instantly buff the spider-lady (which already still needs buffs in my opinion - aswell as maybe Oni or at least Fujin techs)

i also think samurai are very strong but also quite expensive. if they decide to nerf them more i would also decrease their costs a bit.

I see barely any use of Daimyos primary just for shogun GP. are they really that strong?

New Moon is a very cool idea of a GP but it surely feels a bit too strong even i think its favour cost already got increased (maybe i am wrong here tho) i would first and foremost take a look there if talking about nerfs.

also again maybe looking either to buff Fujin or nerf the other two heroic age gods a tiny bit?

I guess it depends on how you picture it or see it used at different levels.

Swampland is a god power that has an rng factor to it based on where the kappas spawn which can bring it from doing nothing all the way to winning the game.

Unlike other god powers like resto or even a very well placed forest fire, you need set up be it in position or an actual army to get that much value. Swampland can get that itself alone.

If you are fighting and the kappas spawn in your opponent s retreat path you Will get a lot of value from it. If they dont you Will get quite less. And if you fight under it because you sre forced to (holding down a position like a gold mine) the kappas will continue to grab units and this strengh only scales the more units are fighting.

I think its less about oni being weak, and more the other 2 myth units being very very strong.

They are very expensive and not fast enough for most fast myth units which are the only myths bushi would struggle with. Since the tankier slow myth units the infantry hero works better. Wirh having so much hero varíety its bound to happen one will see less play.

Fujin i think struggles with how much less impact its god power brings compared tot he other 2. Oni are very strong got a heroic myth unit and the calv upgrade is nice (it was better than kite before kite got buffed) for yumi horse archer. I think it currently sits in a not seen much because the other options are better but not because it itself is bad.
