Don’t nerf Japan unnecessarily. The only thing that’s extremely unbalanced is the samurai; their HP and damage need to be reduced urgently. Japan only needs this change; don’t touch anything else.

u guys really think samurai are overtuned? I feel they’re fine. I think the problem with Japan is swampland and maybe Naginata riders with the inari okari upgrade.
the fastest horse in game plus bonus vs other horses in classic is very hard to deal with, kappa area is huge, tsukoymi moon with full armoy free + line upgrade free, samurai with special attack, life steal in a unity like samurai with high hp, attack and a special attack. Miko healing rate so high, it’s like a caladria, other unit so difficult to deal with it.
I don t even think their samurai needs tuning. But there are other bits I do think makes them quite lame. Perhaps its their scout that really annoys me. Kitsune raiding and all that.
About samurai I think need remove special atack, he almost kill other infantary counter like axeman, ta in one hit.
Other disguting thing, Kitsune, raiju so fast and has a capacity to raid hard + gold by damage, this is so cancer, no one unit can reach this thing, in special in team games.
That archer with upgrade to do bonus damage vs mu, why? There is a spammable hero archer, hero horse and other one slow but with a powerfull special, it’s not necessary.
My earlier criticism of Japan is that they’re good at a lot of things, but their freedom of choice isn’t meaningfully constrained. The Greeks are also strong in many areas, but they’re limited by their hero system, which forces more trade-offs. Japan doesn’t really have that kind of restriction.
If I had to choose two nerfs I’d most like to see, it would be Daimyos and New Moon. Maybe I’m reaching a bit, but Daimyos in particular feel like the core of the problem. If their pierce armor were lowered, the matchup would become much more reasonable. Samurai can already be countered by toxotes, and myth units can deal with Naginata Riders, but once you add a very tanky, high-pierce-armor cavalry hero on top, the whole counter system starts to fall apart.
Yes, I can build Prodromoi, but they have very low pierce armor, so they get shredded quickly. They get shredded by Yari Spearmen. On top of that, the long-range Bushi make everything even harder. This is especially problematic right when you hit Heroic Age, when you don’t yet have enough time to mass the proper counters.
One thing I’ve learned is not to go too hard on myth units—use them sparingly. A particularly nasty combo is when the opponent spams myth units, Naginata Riders, and then mixes in a few cavalry heroes. At that point my myth units become almost unusable, because the cavalry heroes take far too long to kill and can be massed easily. Even with Ares as the Greeks, my Prodromoi struggle to deal with it effectively.
Overall, it’s not just that Japan is strong—it’s that they lack meaningful trade-offs, especially around Daimyos and New Moon, which makes the matchup feel oppressive rather than just challenging.
