I noticed new Drop Off Resources icon for villagers. Is the key assigned to it “A” by default? If so, it interfered with my usual HD Hotkeys and I had to try and fix the issue while playing a match. I hit “Reset Group” and it seems to be the default, along with also assigning “A” for the ‘Economic Buildings’ (build) hotkey.
I’m used to using “A” to open my Build menu:
But I noticed whenever villagers were carrying things, hitting “A” would cause them to go to the drop off location rather than open the Build menu. (Which I did not want. I lost valuable early game time trying to figure out what was happening. I wondered why my “A > Q” and “A > R” type of stuff to build houses and sawmills, etc. wasn’t reliably working)
When I went to the Options screen, both items had “A” as the default:
Warning only appears briefly when you create a clash. It’s a new hotkey and it’s made quite a few things far easier (e.g. Chinese start, nomad fishing etc.)
That’s why. DE default hotkeys are just strict grid layout. So Eco building is Q while Drop Off is A. There’s nothing wrong there.
Just set Drop Off to another key if you want to keep A as eco building.
There are some scenarios where 1 hotkey for 2 things can work, like 1 key for both selecting all TCs and making vils. But in your case it’s ambiguous and won’t work.
I dont think I’m the one who created the clash, though. I think a patch made it be ‘A’ (?). If patch did it, more care should be taken so as to not create conflicts with all default hotkey data sets, not just DE’s.
I mean, I reset to defaults for HD Hotkeys and it shows two things being assigned to A. That can’t be right. And I didn’t see a conflict notice when I reset them
See above. More care should be taken to not create conflicts with other default data sets.
And I’d also contend since I already had ‘A’ assigned for something for years, the patch shouldn’t bulldoze through and create a conflict without making me aware until I find out on my own after starting a match. I shouldn’t be the one to notice the conflict and spend time trying to figure it out and fix it while getting behind in my game or wasting 1 or 2 of my allotted pauses per game. The symtpom wasn’t intuitive, so I can imagine a decent number of players would be dumbfounded for longer than I was, and would take longer to fix than I did.
I think a notice at first launch post-install of patch should’ve said, “Hey! New QoL feature launched (‘Drop Off Resources’. It does this). What key, if any, do you want it assigned to in your hotkey set? ‘A’ is already taken.”
To each their own. I don’t think it’s anything that needed automation or semi-automation
Yeah, that would be really nice. It can especially catch you off guard if you’re using a set of custom hotkeys, then find out they were modified. At least ensuring the defaults don’t have conflicts, having a popup showing where in the menu the new hotkeys are, and perhaps defaulting them to be unbound for users with custom hotkeys or existing conflicts would be very helpful.
Ohhh, good to know. I didn’t know it was a long-standing issue and that there were other examples. Wonder if bug reports were ever made. I never saw any in my quick searches.
I almost classified mine as a bug, but it takes too much time to fill out all the fields (I was tired), and I didn’t know if it qualified as a bug, per se
