Some great stuff here, thanks. Even the masai warrior’s of africa use bird feathers as warrior ornaments but seems a bit of a stretch to use eagles for them.
Is not the best option, thats true, at least is historical and could give some range of strategy
The other option, would be something generic like this
on the plus side it’s only for one civ, and I really hope it won’t be their dark age scout (being able to harass villagers who can’t fight back would be game-breaking)
Several region-specific assets for increased immersion in South American history:
Champi Warriors — fast infantry who can build Outposts and excel at scouting, raiding, and fighting ranged soldiers. Available to the Inca, Mapuche, Muisca, and Tupi.
Slingers — deadly ranged soldiers who spell doom for infantry armies. Slingers serve the Inca, Mapuche, Muisca, and Tupi.
Settlements — buildings that support population and serve as dropsites for all resources. The Inca, Mapuche, Muisca, and Tupi can all build Settlements.
As long as they balance it, I don’t see why not, besides, it’s definitely going to be a castle unit…
doesn’t matter, these status effects and debuffs don’t belong in aoe2. are we going to get a unit that “blinds” next? (ie next attack misses). This is completely against the core principles of the game
Yes, that’s true…that’s why I feel like this DLC was more for the third game, since the snare (slowing down units) is a common mechanic there that players are used to…I don’t know if putting it in the second game was a good idea…
The Shrivamsha Rider already does that, dodging enemy projectiles…
You’ve already suggested a different idea to the devs.
One could argue that any form of DLC goes against the core principles of the original game. As a community—players, developers, and everyone involved—we need to strike a healthy balance between preserving the 1999 experience and supporting a modern, actively maintained game. That’s simply the reality of today’s gaming industry.
Yes, that’s what happens when you modernize the game… obviously they’ll add more stylized graphics like in the castle patch last year and also new mechanics for the new civilizations… at least they’re not doing what they did in AoE 3, reusing Blood campaign assets for the Maltese…
it is one of the most hated units…
but the shrivamsha block attacks targeted at itself, a “blind” effect would make it so the hit unit misses its next attack against any unit
I just hope i won’t regret that, but the devs don’t read this forum anyway.
maybe, but I think all of this would be so much easier to stomach if these changes were properly optional. ie: changes to existing civs are opt-in, and matchmaking allows you to disable DLC, so you don’t need to play against these civs.
Both of these would be compatible with the money-hungry attitude by the devs, yet wouldn’t destroy the game’s identity.
the issue with this is that there is no communication between developers and players.
duh. it’s a forum, people post their opinions.
If they add Atlantians and Jedi to the game it will also be an opinion on whether one likes them or considers them jarring
however this is an objective statement. One of the core principles of the game was that the interactions between units (and buildings) were limited to:
change how much health they have (ie deal damage/heal)
Not really, because the game is set in a historial setting, is not an opinion stating a fact, “Age of Empires is a historical game” and since “jedis are a work of fiction” they dont belong in Age of Empires
the game is set in a historical setting at the moment. they can change that.
Just like how they changed that this was a medieval (and early modern) game, but then added ROR, chronicles, 3K.
They could port AoM into aoe2, like they did with aoe1. Do I think they belong? no. does an aom port objectively not belong in aoe2? no. What belongs and doesn’t belong in aoe2 is always an opinion.
Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds is a game in the same (?) engine. Them porting it and releasing it as a DLC to aoe2 isn’t completely unrealistic. I think we agree it doesn’t belong, but that’s our opinion, not a fact.
Wanna share that crystal ball you have?, perhaps you know what’s gonna happen
In the ground of speculations, they could make a USA civ, a COSA NOSTRA tech for the Italians, a submarine unit for the teutons…I can go on dumb speculations about everything that cross my mind
