Early leaving in ranked team matches needs to be seriously rethought

Just as we need a system to punish crappy team members

People have different standards and ideas about ‘niceness’. Something which looks from your perspective as ‘fair payback’ may well look from the perspective of the other as ‘disproportionate retaliation’. People always perceive the harms they inflict as lesser and the harms inflicted on them as greater. As Gandi said, “an eye for an eye leaves the world blind.”

As a rule of thumb, you usually have an obligation to treat others well, and usually that entails being nice. Not always.

We already have this, it’s called ELO, being a crappy team member will generally lead to a loss which will pair you up with worse teammates in the future by virtue of your ELO being lower.

The 1 day ban example was mainly used to contrast it to the example of the house being on fire. I later elaborated what I imagined as a good framework.

I am not saying “if X happens, Y should be the penalty”. As @Fano0517 said, I am just arguing that there could be something to help ease my frustration about the current state. Maybe we could have a system that doesn’t repulse anyone but makes things better for someone like me.

Addendum:

I just had a match where someone left after 1 minute, again.

I also had a few matches where I got decimated by the enemy. There are strategies for that and I think those matches can be quite fun. I even got thanked twice for staying and playing with them. That’s how badly it was for me; even my team recognized it and praised me for enduring it.

Most of these are disconnects dude. Ask for a fix to the servers, not a ban because a dude got kicked out by the game ffs

dude, someone may very well leave and you would call it a disconnect. Two different issues.

That most of the times are the same. People who leave at minute 1 usualy are disconnects and you should not get banned because of that

I am not saying they should. Don’t misrepresent what I am saying. I said already earlier that I agree that bugs take priority and that people that lose connection shouldn’t get any penalties. The point I am making is that you CAN leave at the moment and get zero penalties. Zero discouragement to abandon a ranked game. That’s the issue this whole thread is about. We got two fronts that need work.

Furthermore, the developers can discern how the client disconnected from the game. It would be very easy for the developers to check if the AOE process has received a signal to shutdown or if the connection broke. There would be obviously ways to circumvent that like plugging the cable out or whatnot. But again, we don’t have even the bare minimum of discouraging people to leave ranked games. This is my point.

Exactly. When literally everyone knows it’s a disconnection, but OP being obsessive about it. LOL

You sound like Trump. EVERYONE KNOWS XYZ SO IT MUST BE TRUE. That kind of statement doesn’t prove a ■■■■ thing. LOL @ you

Furthermoe, I don’t know what kind of networks you all play with. My connection never broke mid-game. Not even a small hiccup.

Dude, explain to yourself, why do people leave at minute 1? If they don’t like the map or civ match-up, they quit before entering the game.

So funny when you just said “EVERYONE KNOWS XYZ SO IT MUST BE TRUE”, then you say my connection is always fine so it must be the case with everyone else.

Dude, competitive gaming can be a very toxic beast to tame. In my experience, people abandon matches for the smallest things. It happens. Why do all the other games invest so much money in systems to discourage it? League of Legends has probably invested millions into it. I am just arguing for the minimum in AOE. Nothing more.

I did not say that everyone else’s connection might not be problematic – the difference in what I said and you said. I listed my experience while you made an assertive claim that every player that leaves equals a broken connection.

In certain regions there are no servers and players have to use a proxy or something.
