Easiest fix would be to just change the gaia player to spanish.

Changing Gaia to Spanish could work, but I wonder if there is also the bigger issue of monks changing. If a monk is changes ownership to the player as part of a scenario, would that also result in changing appearance if they pick up a relic.

Yes. It has been like that since AoC, which introduced the Native American Monk skin. Whenever a converted Monk picks up a Relic, it changes to the Monk with Relic of the current owner’s civ, no matter what the Monk’s previous civ/skin was.

There is already a bug report. No dev reply, though.

I guess this happens due to monk and monk with relic has 2 unit ids, somehow the game cant identify different graphics associated with monk with relic.I wonder if this legacy bug happens if you convert a monk using another monk and use the converted one to pick up a relic.

In the end, it’s not different from taking a Gaia Monk or changing a Monk’s ownership with triggers. Once the Monk picks up the Relic, its unit ID changes and it’s reset for the new owner, including the stats depending on techs and bonuses. The same happens when a converted Ratha or Immortal changes its mode, or a converted Villager is given a new job.

Trade Carts are not affected because their ID doesn’t change when loading or unloading, it’s done through the trade task. The Trade Cart that is full from the beginning is an Editor-exclusive unit.
