Discuss (ENG) Tale of the Dragon RETOLD - Full Campaign

Hi there, Rock here, I am the second creator of this mod
As it was asked, we added our discords to the description of the mod, feel free to contact one of us if you have any questions about the mod or modding in general ! We’ll try our best to answer you !

I also have a small correction to make
In our special thanks, we quoted yeebaagooon, but he didn’t created this mod with us, he was actually part of the team that created the original campaign on AOM Extended Edition (we can see his name on the credits)
We quoted him because he had a great role in the creation of the campaign that has allowed us to create this mod, and because all the things he has done for the modding community were really helpful to us
Just to make sure his role in this mod is not misunterstood

Finished the campaign and really enjoyed it. You guys did a great job recreating it, and adapting and improving it.

Thank you so much for playing it, we are really glad you enjoyed it!
We are also really grateful to your work on campaign menus, it really motivated us to make our best on our mod since it allows it to look like the official campaigns, which is truly a great thing

This is absolute the best campaign mod in retold.
I am very fond of putting scenario heroes, like Nezha, Yangjian in this, and making some other changes.
Be honest, I don’t like using death scream instead of voice.
But it is not so critical.

The only unfortune thing is, there is no age-up at all during the whole campaign. As I remember, the original one do has age-up in some missions.
And, I wish I could build more than 8 pioneers. Otherwise, it is a little difficult to me.

I loved what you did for this campaign, just have a little Suggestion: instead of XingTian, you should use Kuafu, that ressembles better the appearance of Pangu. I already did that for myself but i think it would be great if you made that change in your mod.

Hi !
First of all, thank you for your comment, and we are glad you enjoyed our campaign.
I put a small spoil warning here if anyone reads it whithout finishing the campaign :

About your suggestion, we originally thought of kuafus to represent Pangu at the end of mission 9, but this would’ve caused some issues :
First, unlike Xingtian, Kuafus have a big lack of available animations, and it wouldn’t have been possible for us to make it appear in a way that fits in a cutscene, it would’ve just appear out of nowhere and be static.
It also wouldn’t do any movements in the entire cutscene.
This and the fact that we already use Kuafus in the campaign made us turn towards Xingtian to play the role of Pangu
The fact that it is a titan makes its appearance and animations way more adapted to its role.
Also, the final cutscene show us that everything that is going on this campaign is just a tale that Cangjie tell to Yan Feifeng, so it felt logical for us to use characters that Yan Feifeng could’ve imagine when he heard the tale.
In the end, even though Xingtian doesn’t look like Pangu, its animations and its titan shape make it way more adapted to this cutscene.

Hello there !
There are several reasons that made us choose to have the majority of the campaign without the possibility of aging up :
It allows to never see the portraits of immortal pillar’s gods so the players are more dived in the Chinese Civilization of AOM extended edition.
We also wanted the players to never play the 4 perils (Taotie, Taowu, Qingqi, and Houndoun), as they are associated to the chaos (which our heroes fight) in the tale.
It is also a great way to prevent cheesing missions.
Finally, it makes us progress all along the campaign, the more you advance through the missions, the more you can build advanced buildings, train advanced units, etc
This is why you starts at age 2, then you go age 3 in missions 2;3;4, you reach age 4 in mission 5 but this is a no build mission and you go back to age 3 in the mission 6 as Jiao Long loses everything, then you continue age 3 until mission 9 where you make it all your way back to age 4, with an access to absolutely all the features you had before
Our idea was really to make a logical progression in what you have all along the campaign and to make the mission 9 an ultimate battle where you can use all you have

For pioneers, we were forced to add a build limit for them because they could’ve have ruined some missions otherwise (like mission 1 and 7)
We put 8 because of the immortals of AOM extended edition who were limited to 8.

It makes sense, meaning you can avoid advancing in age if you start already advanced in age… 2nd age the first missions, 3rd age the rest of the missions and 4th age the last one…
