English Age up Rework Suggestions

Currently, the English feel a bit too plain with regard to their Age up Choices. I love the options, but I feel like something is missing. Here is what I propose. The Age up structures could synergize together, so the Abbey of Kings could work with the King’s Palace of which it would then offer unique upgrades for the King. Council Hall would then synergize with the White Tower to produce unique assets/upgrades for the Archers as well, or something along those lines. I believe these would be fun changes for the English and help bring new life to their Age up foundation.

Another idea would be for the King’s Palace to hold 12 workers and also be able to collect gold like the farms. This will help it be a more viable choice. Perhaps even to start collecting gold earlier than farms. Cosmetically, it doesn’t appear as though to be a structure where workers would be farming crops, and I’m sure the King wouldn’t want them bothering him at his Castle, but this is another idea I had for enhancing their Age Up system.

Here is another suggestion to consider as a way to approach this.

Currently, the English feel a bit too plain with regard to their Age up Choices. I love the options, but I feel like something is missing. Here is what I propose. The Age up structures The Abbey of Kings and the King’s Palace could synergize together, so that the King’s Palace would then offer unique upgrades for the King. This would give players a different upgrade path for the English that would help to displace the White Tower Rush meta a bit and off a new strategy for the English, kind of granting them a hero unit similar to how you tested this with the French faction Jeanne d’Arc. Just a third suggestion I wanted to add for consideration this topic. This one just focuses on the King’s upgrade path, as the archers may not need a buff, the King is also powerful in his own right, but these ideas are just simple changes that could help give the English a bit more flavor. The original post was intended to allow both upgrade paths to maintain relevancy; however, I’m not sure if it would make the archers overpowered, or displace the King himself too much.

Damnit the devs were already implementing the first one. Now they have to change it again…

I’ve given it more thought, and decided that. Just kidding. I just wanted to throw some suggestions out there. Which approach do you like best? If you think the first suggestion is better let’s run with that one. I’m just trying to come up with some fun ways to make the standard English a bit more epic.

I think it’s fine for English to be a vanilla civ. It’s just a shame they made their variant just as plain.

That’s what I mean, what I’m suggesting aren’t major overhauls. They are just a couple little changes to make the civ a bit more entertaining. The English are fun to play, great actors too, but everyone agrees the Age Up paths are really flat. I also think adding another English civ entirely is a bit overkill to compensate at this point in time. More civs are always nice, but we need more civs elsewhere at the moment.

Yes, but that’s by design. It’s the tutorial civ.

That’s a lame excuse to just brush off their short comings. You know these changes would be awesome. It wouldn’t make them any less of a tutorial civ either. Also, I disagree with that completely. I found other civs that were touted as more complex to be much easier to pick up than the English. It’s kind of like how people learn math differently. If no changes are made to the English civ it wouldn’t hurt my feelings. As I am unlocking the Masteries for the civs I am just stating things that I notice with certain civs that I think could use a change, or bug reporting.

I do like the idea of boosting the king, maybe some kind of garrison bonus?

King becomes much less relevant later in the game. I think that’s a good place to focus. England has a history of having many kings, so maybe an option should open up in castle age and beyond that allows the player to train a king if they didn’t make king’s abbey (infantry type maybe).

Because outside of early harrassment and mobile healing, the king is pretty useless.
