Escape Key not Working in Game

When I press the ESC key in game, it does not work. I cannot open the menu, I cannot deselect units, I cannot cancel a command. None of it works. As soon as I open the menu, escape works fine, but once I close the menu, I cannot reopen it with escape.

Here’s the steps to reproduce the issue:

  1. Get in game.
  2. Literally click on any unit or building.
  3. Hit escape and nothing happens.

:point_down: What was SUPPOSED to happen if the bug you encountered were not present?

Esc should deselect units, cancel commands such as build, and open the menu.

:point_down: ALWAYS attach a PICTURE (.jpg, .png, .gif) or VIDEO (.mp4, YouTube link) that highlights the problem.

Note: I was spamming the ESC key for this entire video.

Hi @Jdogrey
If you have ESC Menu enabled in Options - Game, does the menu opens when you press esc key? Do you have th ESC key set to any hotkey?

I am having the same problem Since Update 108769.
The problem happens to people who are not in a English windows with Microsoft IME environment.

A temporary solution is to set the keyboard to English keyboard.

  1. Open windows settings
  2. Open date & language > region & language
  3. Add a language “English(United States)”
  4. Switch the IME language setting to the English language you just added
  5. Now Esc cancel and opening menu will work

This issue does not affect the Esc key setting in the AoE2 configuration.
It is necessary to add languages and switch IME languages instead of switching input modes in Microsoft IME.

I would like to see the devs check this in a Windows environment with additional languages other than English that use the IME.
