Worst win rate and lowest pick rate.
Fewer and fewer Ethiopian players, this cis is disappearing.
Some suggestion about Ethiopia adjustment:
- GRANARY : Changes gather yield for food +10%
- LEVY : All levied units cost - 50%. But each hut can call 1 levied pikeman or
bowman only once, each palace can call 3 gunners(135 influence) only once. - OROMO WARRIOR : No more being in a daze after a musket attack. (Current the musket attack is very stupid)
- INITIAL FOOD CATTLE : 300 food —> 350 food. (Current time to age 2 too slow!)
- NEFTENYA : Cheaper and lower hp! Cost : 65f70c —> 55f70c . HP : 140 —> 130 . Shipment : 7 neftenyas —>8 neftenyas.
Ethiopia should revert to last version
I try to love this civ. Its just so ackward. Yes, neftneya can be upgraded into gods over time and coin can not be an issue for ethopia and you can do some age2 great timings and you can do some map control and you can go into a long game and you can send some great merc and natives.
But to get any sort of consistency? To get several of that above in 1 game? Its really difficult. Often not enough time or right map options to do much. You need mass of units, influence, map control, and time. Your deck is low on tempo, your civ slow to hit age2. Your units scale well but you have to limit in a supremacy deck how many.
Its also a very micro intensive civ, with glass cannon musk, lots of fast but flimsy natives, lancer shock infantry beefy but slow skirm and 1 pop goon all with limited artillery and abuns/monastary use key. There are a ton of moving parts to get thos civ to be on par or above the others. And its frustrating. Personally I just stick to teams where i can focus decks, unit comps, and builds to 1 to 2 goals. Players like julianK can get value but for us normal folk its just not able to work on all maps and enemies. Cool civ but a “lobby or tournament map civ” atm.
it’s funny how Ethiopia is actually strong, so high Elo players can make them work, but they’re so micro intensive and weird, everyone else gets a seizure while playing them. If they’re buffed, they need to do it really carefully.
The win rate above 2000 elo is dstorted by JulianK - the best player of almost civs. JulianK played a lot Ethiopia games and win a lot, that not mean Ethiopia overpowered , that mean JulianK overpowered ,he can always win even using any rubbish civs.
Even in tournaments , in which players can chose civ after chose map, Ethiopia 's pick rate is noteble low . Contestants did not think that choosing Ethiopia would give them a victory, even in a cow map , they prefer Housa, or India (more exp).
I think there are some good options in there.
But I would change
- GRANARY
to - GRENADERIE
By which I mean after age 4, Ethiopia should have the option to send a card that transforms the Gascenyas into an anti-cav unit using grenades. Like the famous “Tukul warriors”.
But this is just a small addition I wanted to add to your already great list.
The only thing I would change is maybe gascenya amour to range and maybe cost a bit to like 65/30 or 70/25
It feels like gascenya should be incentivised to rush in and take massive trades to abuse its rof mechanic but they currently dont trade as well as they should. They used to be much stronger (maybe too strong) at 2 rof so there should be a better sweet spot somewhere.
Contrast this with its other speedy musk counterpart, the ashi and that unit needs 170 HP to complement that speed.
Other then that they have everything needed of a good age 2 musk hus civ that can even go skirm in age 3
The opening for ethiopia is also not fully realised atm I think. The Trinity card feels to me like you need to sell another cow to build a mountain monastery in age 1 to fully kickstart their eco, not going with an age 1 mountain monastery feels bad
Maybe another change is to revert the book of axum change that doesnt allow abuns to gather after their build limit increase. It was orignially because of their healing capabilities, but that has been nerfed so reverting that feels fine now.
edit: there should also be atp builds with Indian spice trade but I think that is also underexplored
edit edit: even a furrier opening for ethiopia might be better then Trinity opening if you are not going to build a mountain monastery age 1
I don’t know what the civ needs. What I do know is that Gascenya feel strong, but the civ overall seems weak.
A good starting place that I believe @platypus_slayer1 mentioned in a previous thread was upping the number of Neftenya in each of shipment. They only cost slightly more, so give then 8 and 7 in III and 12 and 13-14 in IV seems perfectly fair. Then combine two of the unit upgrades into one card.
ethiopia needs 1 more village at the beginning or mountain monastery, very bad economy at age 1 maybe add tech add 1 cow per shipment like hausa
All I see is oTTo dropping BELOW 50% at high Elo. Please BUFF!
Dev: You are absolutely right, Ottomans are broken, we are going to nerf the Argentine Revolution, again.
Jokes aside, the devs should take away some of the nerfs from the previous patch from the Argentine Revolution and give them to the Ottoman Humbaraci.
Instructions unclear. We’ve now added a mount/dismount feature for the Humbaraci after sending an age 1 card which also makes SIPAHI trainable in the Fortress Age.
Gideon taught me a 3 MM opening (buy 1 wirh 2nd cow, buy 200w in transition and then get age up MM) that seriously kicks in teams and my LOW level. Infact thabks to boosts 10 vills and an abun on MM is able to buy like 400w or so before market prices make it less efficient iirc.
Oh my god, are you trying to give me nightmares? What’s next, will they also be able to access imperial upgrades in the industrial age?
I said this before and I stand by it, the current developers don’t know how to balance grenadier type units.
Not only in the industrial age but also CHEAPER!
generally events dont have much cow maps but fwiw on the 1v1 ladder ethopia has historically done very well on livestock maps (better than hausa) and on backline tp maps. everything else is subpar and shared tp maps or low res maps they tend to do very bad. but in lower tier events and showmatches, you’ll see some ethopia. its just…i think like you said other players “prefer” aka why try to make thopia work on a map india or france will work on and its the same result? There are some rough scaling issues
Also in teams ethopia is pretty common but team balance is …w/e
I think this would go a long way to helping the age3 tempo which right now is 1 fat cannon,9 gascenya, and 1k mercs. or some natives. no real haymakers to punch back into a game
Better rework of African civilizations is making it easy for people to learn because it’s complicated and early game is hard to defend against rush and FF. But late end is pretty good but problem is influence slow rate on late game. A lot of good units are influence plus they’re very expensive.
If you want dumb things you can do with ethiopia in team games, then you can do a 2 MM opening into Port for the arsenal and in transition send the card that unlocks neftenya and instantly get Counter Infantry Rifling by the time the first batch comes out and just terrorize 60% of civs.
Also apparently they have an age 1 card that sends everyone a wagon that can build barracks so who needs to forward vils
Seriously, is a mounted unit with grenade launchers historically correct?
