Even if budget is an issue, variants are still a mistake

Microsoft should do actual regional pricing. Dawn of War: Definitive is $30, which comes to just under £22. Unfortunately the AoE games follow the usual corporate tactic on Steam which is “make every currency dollars”, or close enough.

I don’t know if you were around here back then, but people definitely complained.

Doesn’t mean the devs can’t do what you’re asking of them, but folks definitely complained.

I think Sultan’s Ascend was done at cost. I don’t think it was priced for effort - I think it was priced to improve the condition and image of AoE IV at the time. If you don’t believe me, that’s cool. Ultimately it doesn’t matter if it was or not. It’s a problem World’s Edge have created for themselves if so.

Far below the same scale as V&V or 3K for AOE2, or the recent two for AOE4.

I feel it was barely more complaints than any balance change

BRUH. They released Knights Of Cross & Rose and I still don’t have the money or disk space on my xbox for this stuff. I’m quite happy that they release a variety of DLC. Recently, Cross & Rose, and now civilisation variants. I am not complaining just because something doesn’t suit my interest or tastes.

It should be doing regional pricing on steam (https://steamdb.info/app/3067190/):

USD prices don’t account for taxes. Euro and GBP have the price displayed with VAT, that’s the difference you’re seeing.

They should but even if they did it wouldn’t make up for my “disappointment penalty”. I’ll never pay more than 10 for this, the actual price I’ll be willing to pay I will reason it out in the future.

I thought this as well and it’s a big issue. It’s on sale at 50% off now, they didn’t even keep the price up over time.

You do? I doubt the people complaining felt that way.

Not sure that explains why DoW: DE was adjusted as per the currency conversion. Evidently there are tools the developers (or more accurately publishers) can use.

This is correct, from what I’ve read about it there is a default price adjustment that is changed on a per currency basis by the publisher. Even across the age of empires series the price differences range from 7-18% between USD, GBP, and Euro.

Looks like the Euro gets priced at 4.99 (USD is 4.99) for AoE IV while GBP goes for 3.74 (all with the current 75% sale running). It’s pretty common when price checking any title, it’s not just Xbox Game Studios.
