Just noticed that the .exe of the game is still called RelicCardinal.exe instead of something like AoE4.exe
Cardinal was the name of one of the betas or alphas. Are we still at that stage? That would explain many things though.

Normally you will never rename such things because then you have to rename every reference to it.
Changing the value of 1 variable in their code/script should really be doable. Its not like you change this thing manually in multiple locations.

While that would probably be ideal, code is never ideally written.
Look at New World. .coded by “professionals” with client-based Authentication. 
It’s likely more effort than the worth of doing it, … or perhaps they’ll do it in a coming patch
