Maybe its the CG replacement ship judging by the projectile, why does it look like a european ship I have no idea.
American civilizations—especially the Aztecs and Mayans—could benefit from a unique alternative to the Galleon.
Bee Nest Ship
A naval unit that replaces cannonballs with bee nests. Upon impact, the nest bursts and releases a swarm that remains in the area for ~10 seconds, dealing area damage over time to nearby units.
This would give American civs a distinctive naval identity without relying on gunpowder, while adding tactical zoning and denial mechanics rather than raw burst damage.
I think he is a generic replacement for the Cannon Galleon. The problem is that all the civilizations need a siege ship, not only the american one, the Cumans for example still lack a siege ship. Also many civilizations have Canon Galleon but disappearing before the gunpowder era, the Viking are an obvious example, they never use gunpowder even if their successor states (Norway, Sweden and Denmark) use gunpowder later.
Also they say in the FAQ that their will be a new siege ship, never that their will be a regional ship.
Also having a generic siege ship without gunpowder is good even for gunpowder civilization for scenarios that takes place before the gunpowder era. For example in the beginning of the hundred year war the English and the French fought at the Battle of Sluys in 1340, a non gunpowder siege ship is very good for this pre gunpowder battle even if the two civilization use gunship later.
I think that Canon Galleon will become a regional unit, the new siege ship will become the generic siege ship for many of the civilizations.

Well that looks bad. It looks just like the galleon! Not only does it not work for American civs, it also will get confused with a pre-existing one. And I thought the Hulk was bad…
I sincerely would like to have Native American ship’-line, same with siege units
But you know this is AoE II and there are no manouvers on Siege, buildings fall off with sword hits and so!
Maybe it’s also supposed to be for the cumans??? A generic non-cannon cannon galleon replacement.
I dunno. I’m wondering if it’s a placeholder. It REALLY looks like a Galleon.
Maybe its a generic catapult ship for all civs (?)
I think a five ship water balance sounds more fun
Or maybe a replacement for the cannon galleon? Is that why it’s so similar?
I’m glad I’m not the only one thinking this. It really looks bad and feels very different from the rest of the ship skins. It’s like trying to scale down a picture by shrinking only the sides. I was expecting them to fix this.
It genuinely looks like a placeholder.

Seems like none of the suggestions were implemented. Can anyone spot changes from the Thalassocracy Tournament patch?
Stole the words out of my mouth.
I can’t imagine the hulk didn’t get at least a numbers tweak, and i’m not going thru every tech cost to see if there’s a change, but yes, by and large, this looks identical to the thalassocracy patch.
maybe they removed heavy demo ship. it’s not 100% clear to me. but yeah, they may as well have just ctrl+a, ctrl+c, ctrl+v the last post.
“Please tell us what you hate”
“oh ok, everyone from casual observers to pros notice the water overhaul doesn’t achieve it’s stated goal”
“cool but we aren’t going to make any changes”
Honestly after V&V and V&V2 I was naive to expect anything else.
Hulks were specifically stated to have been nerfed.
Demo Ships were also buffed.
They, in fact, have made changes.
The only changes I observed so far are
- Introduction of Whales as marine gold resource.
- Introduction of Catapult Galleon - siege ship for those civs who don’t have Cannon Galleons, Dromons, or Lou Chuans.
- Trade cog will be able to switch to 3 gold and wood ratios instead of 5.
- Hulk damage has been reduced, Demolition Ships explosions are more deadly, and all warships sail a bit slower.
- New Icons for Careening and Dry Dock.
- Villager role of Oyster Gatherer renamed to Pearler and will use foraging animation.
where are you seeing this?
where are you seeing this?
We have reviewed your feedback after the Thalassocracy Cup tournament last year, and have made a number of changes to address several issues. In particular, Hulk damage has been reduced, Demolition Ships explosions are more deadly, and all warships sail a bit slower.
A full changelog will be available with the official patch notes coming mid-February. We’d like to thank everyone for their detailed feedback that has helped guide the balance for the new naval warfare, which we are excited to share with the entire community on February 17th!
It’s on the page.
It’s on the page.
Well I just read through the entire page, and then again when you said they mentioned those changes and I’m still not seeing what you’re describing. Would you mind excerpting or screenshotting the relevant portions?
This is just the damn Galleon with a Mangonel strapped to it.
Seriously, like they took 2 sails off the Galleon and put a teeny tiny mango on it.
It’s right after the “Naval Economy and Production” section, just before the preview patch notes.
This is just the damn Galleon with a Mangonel strapped to it.
Well, that makes sense. It’s a galleon, after all.
Seriously, like they took 2 sails off the Galleon and put a teeny tiny mango on it.
Still, they could make it a bit larger and add something so that it looks visually distinct from the Galleon.
