Again the donjon can be easily surrounded as it is a 2x2 building. Also serjeants get soft countered by MAA and archers. Also if they are busy cleaning up your towers you can comfortably transition into Castle Age and xbow, while they need to stay in their base. Why not drop a castle on their forward res as well, since you are already on stone? They are not like Cuman steppe lancers on release day.
So Donjons are cheaper, stronger towers that also train units? nice
not really. they take up 4 tiles, fire 2 arrows, and they require 200 stone.
But they also need 200 stone no?
Oh mb, I thought i saw them at 100 stone

yep, which means its almost impossible to defend two towers in two locations, and has been pointed out, because the bigger surface area, you can literally surround them more easily and kill them.
Lmfao mbl on stream rn, researched Flemish revolution and his eco disappeared
so he’s the first major victim of the revolution.
But you only need to invest villager time for the first donjon and then you can task serjeants to build the next ones. They do build slowly, but it can still be a problem.
Sicilians ought to have Watch Tower and have the Donjon as Guard Tower replacement. Serjeants and Donjons get an automatic upgrade to their HP, armor, and attack upon reaching the Castle Age, and those stats look okay on paper. But a unique unit and a unique building available in the Feudal Age, with the building also completely replacing a standard building line, breaks so many rules the overwhelming majority of other civs adhere to that this part of the Sicilian gimmick can only be super broken or super useless. And so far it’s looking to be super useless because the Donjon is very expensive for Feudal Age, easier to batter down than a tower, and M@A are a cost-effective unit vs. Feudal Age Serjeants.
Plot twist : everyone loves this because now they have a reason to go extended m@a in feudal age 11
