The Viper just published a video with Roman’s overview
They aren’t out out. They’re just available to content creators and pro players as part of a preview.
I’m not surprised that they are available in ranked, they look busted…
I think they will need to have their water tuned down honestly. Too much stuff for their castle age galleys. Castle age scorps may be a bit too cheap too
But beyond that they seem balanced
Surprise they aren’t labeled “Gallery and Scorpion civilization” with all the bonuses they get for those.
Charge attacks may also be brutal for all militia and knight lines
Awww they look so good, such a shame we cant play them on ranked
They look totally fine compared to DOI Gurjaras and Hindustanis to me. Also balance is not a hard job.
Guys are they available in ranked?
No, they aren’t, probably for balance reasons.
Do you think they will be available later?
Infantry civ.
Villagers gather, build and repair 5% faster.
Galley line +1 attack (note : they lack bracer)
War galleys +1/1 armour, Galleons and Dromons +2/2 armour
Infantry receives double effect from blacksmith armour upgrade (note, they don’t have plate mail armour)
Scorpions cost -60% and benefit from ballistics
UU :
- Centurion (castle)
- Legionary (barracks) : replaces 2h swordman, no champion
UT :
- Ballistas : scorpions and galley-line fire 33% faster
- Comitatenses : militia-line, centurion and knight line train 50% faster and receive a charge attack (seems to be 5 bonus damage)
TB :
- scorpions have no minimal range
The dromon replaces the cannon galleon, has a catapult mounted on it. This is not counted as an unique unit so maybe other civs (notably the Byzantines) will get it too, civs that lacked the cannon galleon (meso civs huns and cumans) maybe ?
I have to say, I really don’t like their water bonuses. Portuguese castle age UT gives +1/+1 armour, while romans get +2/+2 for free. But on top of that, the galleons also fire +33% faster. That almost feels insulting to Portuguese. The civ feels totally broken on water at first glance. They need to lose fast fire ship at the very least.
Not sure how to feel about the rest, looks like we need to wait till more details come out. The infantry looks pretty cool though.

What about Saracens ?
Pointless civ if it is not a ranked civ. Unless they balance it and add later. Bonuses are being wasted on a civ basically.
Also MP people basically dont have a reason to buy thr DLC
Byzantines, very possibly. No chance of it being given to American civs, probably not Huns or Cumans either, as its name and design are highly specific to Romans/Byzantines. Sets the precedent for possible regional cannon galleon substitutes for new civs as some of us have suggested.
Oh, I agree. But this is what the people wanted, apparently.
Also, this does look pretty lazy as far as new assets are concerned. Looks like the Dromon and the castle are the only new graphics.
Byzantines, Goths and Huns. Also Goths is the only one among them that have both CG (Not elite) and Dromon, at least by the tech tree picture. And Byzantines Dromon fires 25% faster just like their Fire Ship.
Reduced minimum range, not no minimum range.
I almost had a heart attack reading that, because I thought it said it was removed, and that would directly interfere with my Armenians civ concept. Plus, it would just be super broken from the get-go.
Really don’t understand some decisions… Why give charge attack to a civ knowledge by their turtle formations?
