Yeah, I doubt they’re trying to represent Danes up to 1523, at least with the Main civ, but the Norse period.
The thing is, if the Main civilization is going to have Longoats and even Berserkers, I doubt they’ll reach an age where they were banned or replaced (Longboats → Hulks).
On the other hand, if they’re going to make a Viking-themed Crucible, using only that civilization, and they expect them to continue raiding even with post-Imperial units, I doubt they’ll change their look or Viking units for the Danish ones from the Kalmar era.
In any case, I would really like a variant like you say, Kalmar or Denmark, or Norway, because these countries had very beautiful medieval landmarks, although of course, later than the Viking period.
