For 1v1 ranked, 'no mirror' option

A lot of people dislike playing mirror matches, and just resign when they get a mirror. If it happens enough, their ELO then becomes inaccurate, with all of the issues that results in for everyone. I propose a preference setting ‘disallow mirror’ for 1v1 ranked.

i propose a no otto option

You constantly play with the ottoman, right?)))

This may cause you will be always unable to search a game.

No, I only play civs that aren’t overpowered and are rarely played, always in the bottom half. One reason is I hate mirrors, the other reason is I want to win because of how I played the game, not because I picked an overpowered civ + overpowered strategy that everyone and his grandma are doing. I play Inca/Ports sometimes, but I didn’t play it when it was overpowered. I play Ports less now because it is on the borderline of OP. I never play bs OP civs such as Otto (except when I first started playing the game, and that was mostly offline), USA, China so it is rare that I myself get a mirror. Feel free to look up my profile to verify.

What’s the problem then. Why playing mirror battles is bad. On the contrary, they are as honest as possible. On the other hand, even if you don’t like them for your own personal reasons. I met mirror fights once a week. I think we can be patient.

Why are you against giving people ‘choice’? If you love mirror matches, then don’t check ‘avoid mirror matches’.

This is the problem:

I’m trying to understand your problem, because it’s not obvious to me. I don’t have any problems with mirror fights.

In his original post he stated that some people will resign upon seeing a mirror. I rather enjoy them, but they can be much slower because you both can’t take risks so easily (no comeback if you’re both playing the same build and you lose 5 vills or half your army, unless your opponent makes a mistake).

At the lowest levels everyone is making plenty of mistakes so it’s almost like a regular game.

I kinda like mirrors for the same reason a lot of people don’t, trying to pull out an advantage through a slightly better build, or player skill then playing things safe until I can capitalize (or make some mistake and lose lol). I also like that it generally means my opponent won’t have access to anything really obnoxious.

Anyway, at higher levels you need to basically play perfectly if you have a good opponent and that can lead to less interesting gameplay and/or more stress.

It depends on the civilization you are playing for. Ottoman often has a mirror fight, France, Britain, Dutch and Germany too. The remaining 17 civilizations do not encounter such a problem.

but even in those it’s often a question of who can get slightly more eco. In a high level otto mirror you often see someone adding a handful of fishing boats etc. Brits mirrors are often decided by having a slightly greedier build as well, that or coming out on top of the FB war. It’s not always the case, but usually the winner is whoever successfully manages to gain a small eco advantage without taking any significant losses. You also might notice I said “can” when describing that things sometimes go slower… it’s called a generalization.

Haha I’m exactly the same, I like to win in a satisfying way. The tops civs are FREELO and I would never play them. I used to main Ottos and I haven’t touched them since the last two or three patches because they’ve simply gotten far too overpowered.

Small nerfs to OP civs, and small buffs to UP civs - never large - is my policy. Devs ruin everything if they do otherwise especially when updates are extremely rare.
